How do folks react to your hat wearing?

The Western is a different story, ever since I shaped it plateau-style and stuck a big white feather in the band, I've been wearing it nearly every day to work. I've seen people nearly walk into things staring at my hat. The sheer outrageousness of that particular style makes people smile, no one around here has a hat like that. I've also heard "that man has a nice hat" from passersby, usually elderly women.

ahah just like me. I still see people passing by in their cars and staring at me probably thinking "unbelievable" or "what is that?". Some people say "ye-haw".
This year on Lisbon mini-marathon we came across some stages were performers were singing and acting. Some said on the speaker "what a big hat!" or "look at the sheriff".
Around here I'm known as the cowboy. No one have cowboy hats like mine. One of my neighbours tried to copy me with one of those cheap suede cowboy hats but looks like he quitted.

I get the feeling that people think I'm weird, esp if I wear hats everyday to work, etc. "There goes that guy with the hat".
In the morning when I get to work, people on the bus stop must think I'm weird and some times they see me taking selfies.

That is exactly why I think there aren't as many people wearing hats anymore; they're concerned that other people will think they look weird if they do wear them. I've come across a number of people, usually the ones that have commented on my own hat, that say they would like to wear one but think that they would just look stupid. I always tell them, "Not every face will look good in every hat, you have to find the right hat for your face."
Sorry to go kind of off topic, that's just something I've been thinking about recently.

Something I've noticed in recent months is that people I don't know seem to be more willing to strike up a casual conversation with me and seem to be more relaxed around me when I'm wearing one of my fedoras or flat caps. Because of my general appearance (shoulder length hair, beard, visible tattoos) and the way I normally dress (dark colored tee shirts and jeans), in the past a lot of people have made the assumption I was a "biker" and often approached me cautiously if they approached me at all. I even had a good friend once tell me that I sometimes have a "way" about me that says "keep your distance" (which I found laughable--unless I have a good reason to dislike someone, I'm about as dangerous as a happy puppy). But put a fedora on my head, and suddenly people are gregarious and treat me like an old friend. [huh]

This happens to me but they think I'm a heavy metal guy (tatoos, almost all black clothing, leather jacket, long hair (it is shorter now), beard...). I do like heavy metal but too pop, rock, classical... the only music I can't really stand is jazz.

Nobodies perfect... :p
I'm the same way when it comes to music, from Bach to Eminem, if it's got a good feel and sound I'll listen....
I really don't know what jazz have. To me something is not right. Hiphop is not my thing also but some songs are bearable.
There is also a type of music popular here called "kuduro" that I can't stand. I think it come from Portuguese African ex-colonies.

love the Comments !

I have never and I do mean never gotten a negetive comment in regards to wearing a hat .

However I am also quite certain that being dressed to the nines also helps explain why I get the remarks that I do.

Just the other day a woman and a young one at that ( most of the time it's older people and women in particular for some reason) said to me "I really like your hat and you look so sharp the way your dressed , I wish that more men would dress like you and take a little pride in their apperance " .

I thanked her and went about my business .
I always dress to impress but in reality I really dress for myself first and foremost.

All the Best , Fashion Frank

I get the feeling that people think I'm weird, esp if I wear hats everyday to work, etc. "There goes that guy with the hat". Some occasional compliments by the fellas, especially the older ones. If I wear the cowboy type (Akubra Kiandra, not even cowboy), some have commented like "Where're the horses?"

I think nowadays hats are seen as cool and hip. At least with the younger generation. You see a lot of musicians, actors and characters in TV shows wear hats, shows like mad men and boardwalk empire have done their job. Over at reddit, I've seen people thrown their support for fedoras despite the stereotype they have over there, as long as they're worn with some decent clothes. You see a lot of hats worn with the whole menswear movement and most hat wearers are mostly younger men I bet. An old woman once told me that those hats are for the young to wear nowadays. My mother didn't like me wearing those hats at first because she said they made me look like an older man and it had probably to do with her gowning up and seeing mostly older men wear those types of hats.

I was wearing my Black Fedora yesterday and one of the shop keepers said he really liked it. That was a nice thing to say and made me feel good for the rest of the day. :)

STEVIEBOY, the very same thing happened to me this morning, not once but twice. Where abouts are you in London? I live in Wanstead. This morning I went shopping for a few groceries for lunch. my wife is recovering from surgery, I am doing the house-husband bit, and lunch is part of that bit.

At the checkout, Sophie, (the name on her badge) who must be underage, was the cashier pricing my purchases. Underage for alcohol because she called a supervisor to pass the bottle of wine I had bought. The supervisor, had looked at my hat, for what seemed like, too long just for curiosity. "My hat is always a talking point," I interspersed, as a get out for her staring. "Your hat is fabulous," she answered, but your shoes, oh, your shoes are just wow!" By now, Sophie couldn't contain herself, she got up from the till, looked at my spectators and said: "If only my boyfriend would look like you." Aw shucks Sophie, you just made my day. I didn't say it, but my grin must have shown it.

Out in the car park a couple of youths were skate boarding. I came in for some ribbing when I put my purchases into the car. "Man, what sort of **** do you look like? Said one of them. Not wishing to get into confrontation with two strongly built adult teenagers, I just smiled and said: "Only too happy to give you a good laugh." The second youth asked if he could take a photo of me on his phone. "By all means," I replied, hand on hips a la supermodel. These two lads had the uniform of today on. Baseball cap, worn askew. T-shirt that looked like it had a pot of paint thrown at it, jeans worn so low, that at any moment they might be prosecuted for indecent exposure. Once the photos were done, and the confrontational atmosphere lessened, I just asked, "Why am I such a ****? "Man," the first one said, "If only."

I need to tell you that there were a lot of profanities coming from these two, although you might have deduced that. But I cannot repeat said profanities because I like this forum and don't want to get myself suspended, or banned.

"If only what?" I encouraged. adding, "if only my friends wouldn't mock me." I went on, "you two only do and dress as part of your group. It's called: Herd instinct. You don't want to stand out." The reply almost shocked me. "Man, how did you know?" Because I was young once you silly arse," I thought, but didn't say. The youth went on: "Where do you get shoes like that?" "Are you serious?" I replied. "No," he answered, honestly. "But like you said:If only my pals didn't take the p*ss out of me." "You'll get there," I said, smiling, as I got into my car, and drove off. Another convert.

What did I look like that was so controversial?I had a Henley blazer on, it's stripped with dark colours, mostly burgundy, with a little bottle green, navy and some fine, only just visible, gold pinstripes. My trousers are an elephant grey kind of colour. The shirt is a Darcy spear point, an art deco red tie, some red & grey fair isle socks, a pair of art deco cufflinks, my new, oxblood and ivory spectator shoes all topped by the new Stetson, in a colour that is described as Caribou. See below for details: The only problem with the photo is that I had to set the camera up and race back into position. I didn't realise there wasn't enough light to get all the details. But then again, everyone here doesn't need a pictorial definition at all.

Thank you Huertecilla.
You, and all the Loungers, are just inspirational. Whether it's in what you wear or just in your complimentary manner to what others wear, it's reassuring to know that there's always someone who appreciates the effort.
