I recently bought a Rockmount Denim shirt with floral embroidery. An absolutely stunning shirt, only downside was it was like a tent on me, a strong gust of wind and I would have been carried up into the air.

I'm a UK large and bought the Rockmount in a large too. With how huge the large was there is still no way a medium would be the required size and I doubt a small would be too. Folk with experience buying these shirts; what size do you tend to go for? Do you have to go quite a few sizes down?

See the Rockmount fit here & compare to what you normally get in a U.K. large:

Other than that it could be a situation of U.K. Sizing vs US Sizing. When custom Western bookmakers in Leon, Mex started selling their boots in the US the boots tended to run too wide. They were made on Mexican lasts. Now they use American lasts for the US orders they take. But it can still be confusing which lasts they were made on when buying boots on the secondary market.

Back to embroidered shirts, I bet the argument could be made that the idea of personalized decoration could go back to the Rebel shirt.

"This here linsey-woolsey shirt I got that all you boys wore."

"We didn't have no ma."

"So Pa did all the fancy needlework for me."

"Told me not to tell no one."

-- Jamie (The Outlaw Josey Wales)
Men & the units who fought under the Partisan Ranger Act did not have regular uniforms. Since they fought guerrilla style on & off horseback they needed a way to try & eliminate "friendly fire" wounds & casualties. Quantrill's men started to wear red shirts or red on their shirt so they could recognize each other in the moment of battle. The Captains under Quantrill started to decorate their shirts so the men under their command could more easily recognize them in battle & take direction from them.

Because celebratory mutilation of the enemy after death was so common the decoration embroidered on the shirt helped the men identify their remains. The picture above of William Anderson was taken after he was killed on 10/26/1864, in Richmond, MO. His left hand ring finger has already been hacked off in order to steal his ring. Shortly after pictures were taken his body was decapitated & his head was displayed for 3-4 days on top a pole on the town square.

I mixed and matched a few different decades to achieve a “vintage” look, I guess. Outside of the wild rag, I’ve dressed this way for a long time when I wasn’t wearing blue polyester and I never gave it a lot of thought until TFL and the fact that eBay is one of the few suppliers left of some of my favorite clothes. I have quite a few pearl snap western shirts and the white/cream label Pendleton HIgh Grade Western Wear shirts are among my favorites. I love the fancy embroidered shirts but they would be closet shirts for me. Out of the 25 or so I have, most are solids with a few plaids thrown in and most of them are subtle. I have looked for years for decent wool gabardine western shirts with Bakelite buttons before Jack Weil came out with the pearl snap shirt in 1946 but every one of them I’ve bought has been a disappointment.

Anyway, 60’s Pendleton shirt, current production Wild Rag, TL’s from the 60’s, Nutria Quality from ? and a custom made ranger belt I had commissioned along with a brown one a couple of years ago with a Zuni lapis, channel inlay ranger buckle.

All around outstanding, Cuz! That Rolling Tide red Pendleton is 100% all on its own but the full gear really says what's up. Especially those red piped TLs. Nice work!

Thank yo, HJ.

Looks great BB, all together action shot would be appreciated too ;)
Love that Nutria, perfect lighting in the group shot!

Thanks, Ross I’ll try to get that done. Really appreciate the photo comments from you and @Hurricane Jack. You two are always posting some of my favorites.

Nice @Bamaboots ! Have you shared details of that buckle set on the “native” thread?

Thanks, Bob I’m pretty sure I did before I had the belt to mount it on. I’ll try to get some more posted since I’ve been wearing it quite a bit as I wasn’t sure I would. I love the lapis designs but wasn’t sure I’d enjoy wearing one as much as I have this one.

Thanks, Cuz it would work on game day. I really appreciate it and thanks to all who have commented. I know you all have some fine pieces as well.
