The other day I was stopped for a triffic light ad glanced over at city workers doing something on the roadside and there was a decent looking guy about 30ish with his ball cap on backwards like he was ready for a big time, hip hop hootenanny. He just was so mature he just looked like a jackass.

Then it hit me. All these baseball caps with unused and unappreciated bills. The wearers might as well be sporting a fez. At least the tassle is unidirectional. Whaddya thinK?lol

It is unfortunate that the Viennese firm of Habig und Sohn went out of business back in the 1970s. This family of hatmakers had been making most of the world's high-quality fur felt fezs (or tarboosh, to give them their Egyptian name) They exported them throughout the former Ottoman Empire from Casablanca in the west to Basra in the east. There used to be some signifigance to the colour of the fez as well. Red was the most common. Black however, signified that one was a lawyer. As countries became secular republics as opposed to monarchies, the fez was usually outlawed.

Haversack.

All my life I've wanted to welocme guests to my joint looking like that, only without sunglasses and with a pipe - the kind that blows bubbles.

What's keeping you from it?

A fez just says Ottoman civil servant to me.

Well, the wearing of Fezzes (in Turkey)was banned in 1925, by Atatürk, so maybe pre-1925 Ottoman Civil Servant.

I don't agree anyway-

I think of Sydney Greenstreet in Casablanca and I like the look.

A nice linen suit and a dark red Fez is a great look for North Africa.
