House slippers

I looked and looked and I hope no one zaps me for bringing up an already covered subject, but does anyone wear house slippers? Not the ones with a slight heel and feathers or fur, but flat comfortable yet elegant vintage-y looking slippers that you wear in the house. Is there such a thing and does anyone have any suggestions?

You are fabulous! Thank you so much :)

I was really desperate to find something that would go around my whole foot because the backless slippers I kept buying just wouldn't work. These are perfect!

I got a nice pair of black velour ones in M&S that are like a ballerina pump - maybe not so vintagey but warm and comfy! I also have a pair of ruby red peeptoe Daniel Green slippers with a nice heel and rosette on the toe - needless to say I never wear them - I just love looking at them!

I have a pair of Daniel Greens very similar to those in white --- but they've got just enough of a bend in them from poor storage that if I'm not careful I tip over when I wear them. Highly inconvenient, especially when coming down stairs. Anyone know how to straighten them out?

I have house slippers.... but they're big fluffy stuffed gray ones that pick up all the sewing threads my projects litter of the floor like a magnet. lol Not nearly as glamorous as Daniel Greens ;)

hehehehe.... I have those too, but Im trying to be cute for the hubby when he gets home from work, which I think is a lost cause lol

Thank you so much girls! Our floors are freezing in this 1908 house and I was trying to come up with a better solution then the backless slippers I've been using and y'all helped a great deal :)

I have sheepskin booties myself. I got them for christmas when I was a kid (I'm only 18, so that's not as weird as it sounds!) and though they're not truly vintage they're very classic and so, so cozy. Here are mine.

I have a question about slippers, too; so you know those marabou boudoir slippers in classic pin-up pictures? Well, did women actually wear them? I mean, obviously the average 50s housewife probably wasn't tottering around the house in heeled slippers, but I can't seem to recall ever having seen a pair in an actual vintage photo or even movie. I'd love to see some period pictures/stills if anyone has any!

Oh, and these are the ones I mean.

I could never figure out how it would be possible to walk in those kinds of slippers...eek!

I have a pair of house slippers of a brand called Goody. Some of the models are a bit OTT, but they are definitely unique...

Here are cute ones you can make yourself!

The pattern is located at http://www.instructables.com/id/The-Elle-Tie-On-Slippers/

I keep meaning to make these and buy slipper treads to put on the bottom. You could also use lots of dots of puffy paint to add grip.

I got a pair of Daniel Greens via Ebay several years ago. I think they're actually a Men's "opera" style, but I liked the looks, so hey...

I love the looks wearing them too, but they always chilled my feet to the bone within an hour. Especially in the fall/winter. I couldn't figure it out, until I took a closer look and saw the "all man made materials" stamp on it. No wonder. No breathable materials there...

So, either I got a fake knock off or DG makes a "B" class of their line...

I've looked at their current women's leather shoes and only see the "Meg" line, which looks a little too Bass Weejuns for me in shape. (They're fine, just not the look I want in a house slipper).

I'll probably go back to the Men's line! LOL

Mao shoes aren't particularly vintage but they're within my budget. However, when I visit my MIL I like to borrow her quality study soled, wool felt slippers. The price for a pair is just too steep for me. They're similar to the ones Puzzicato posted but flat soled. They're so comfortable and fit snugly around the foot and ankle.

Don't crochet well enough yet to do this. My grandma used to make all us kids (her granddaughters I think there were 7 of us) crochet slippers from granny squares. I just got a crochet book from my mother in law that has crochet slippers that incorperate rag strips into the soles. It sounded neab but the instructions were hard for me to make out.
