Hotel Pennsylvania To Be Demolished

This is HORRIBLE news. This was once the world's largest hotel and made even more famous by Jack Albin's Hotel Pennyslvania Music and Glenn Miller's song PEnnsylvania6-5000. The lobby has been botched up by a 1970s looking redo - but the outside is as grand as ever. I hope this does not happen.

Well, in a way it is like it is happeneing all over again as the Hotel Pennsylvania is one of the very last surviving reminders of its namesake station that was once across the street.

It's a shame. Also a shame that the Penn hadn't been a good hotel at all in recent years. That's due to the neighborhood. But redoing it into a better class of hotel wouldn't have done much to revitalize the neighborhood.

Although I live in Sydney, Australia, and I don't know the Hotel Pennsylvania, I understand perfectly the horror of it all It's like the whole past is being bulldozed into a parking lot
On a happier note, I can tell you that I enjoy a lot your Dismuke's home page with all that AMAZING music of the late 20s and early 30s ! I've done some many recordings...
