I don't love the hide but a bootlegger makes any hide look good

Not my Cup of tea. Too red, too little colorvariation. I like the cordovan much better.

The Mustang shown on the Bootlegger was an early sample from Horween that we felt was a bit too orange. The second attempt was a lot better and we are just about to add it to our range. It is however very hard to photograph nicely.
The A2 below is quite a good example of what it looks like, sorry for the poor photo it was taken on my phone but it does show the colour well.
It is a lovely midweight horsehide approx 2.5oz.

It does still have 'orange' undertones, see pic below taken out side. The pic perhaps shows slightly more orange than is true, as i mentioned it is very hard to capture properly with my phone. Both pics are unfiltered.

I'm trying to think of a hide for a Teamster that'd work well, is mid-weight and orangey. Already have a cafe racer in battered tan, so trying something else. A tumbled russet, or something.

I see what you mean. It's a bit like battered tan that couldn't throw the fight.

Goodwear has used the Mustang in the darker color for at least one A-2 that I have seen.
