I took a horse A-2 I made earlier and finally tried a depot re-dye. I mixed the colors to get what I wanted then hand-applied the dye. I think it turned out AWESOME! The color is actually a bit darker than it looks in the pics. May take the shoulder decal off though, don't know how I feel about that.

That is an awesome job. That was a cool idea to depot one of your own jackets. How will it wear? Hmmm??? Just an FYI I have seen a few A-2s redied then have the U.S. AIR FORCE (not ARMY AIR FORCE) under the star. Those were Korean war era A-2s re issued.

Interesting note on Korea-era issue A2s, I hadn't heard that before; I suppose those must have been some they still had in stores and didn't want to waste. I imagine they were preferable, too, from the POV of a downed pilot to the B15-C!

I like the decal on this jacket, but I think it does maybe need the 'USAAF' legend to look 'right'. My ELC A2 has the decal. It does, IMO, somehow make the jacket seem more casual, though YMMV on that score.

That's the cool bit, this thing is going to wear like and original with the topcoat gradually wearing off to reveal the light brown underneath.

That is a deep rich brown, much more so than the original. I like it and would like to try it on a jacket I have.

What type of dye did you use and how did you mix it? The chrome dye is almost impossible for non professionals to get these days, while the vegetable dye just won't touch those leathers that have been chrome tanned. I think I have my terminology correct?
