A black, german made Stetson Stratoliner and a black cherry VS Strat-clone are both high on my long list. Most likely I will never get close to the first one, but the latter will pretty soon be ordered

Me too! Got it all shaped the way I like using the steamer in the back at Paris Hatters. But, I didn't wear it all day-90 degrees in a fur felt hat is hard to take.

Having been stiffed in the b-day department for some years, this is my attitude anymore, too. I'm happy and my family is happy for having gotten me exactly what I want. I'm thinking a VS Wanderer style this time, ala Short Balding Guy.

Back to the main topic, although I don't have any specific manufacturers in mind I'd like something in a nice Whiskey-colored fur felt with dimensions similar to that of the Akubra Fed IV.

You need to put a VS lightweight on your list. I wear one a lot during the summer just because I don't really care for straw hats. They are incredibly lightweight, the liner is removable and Art will install vent holes.

I'd like to find a spare of this safari hat I bought off eBay. Near as I can tell it was probably made for Banana Republic when they still sold cool adventure-oriented stuff.

The brim is stiff as a board and the hat is well-made.
