what is the design in that second suit ? The Greek key?

They're both greek key design. Obviously the owner loved the first one so much they just had to get the same cloth in a different colour. It's certainly unusual.

Last winter there was another suit on Ebay with a very similar fabric in gray and blue. If memory seves me right the price didn't go too high on that one.

Damn shame about the size and how much it went for. It is amazing what u can find on ebay... off topic I just paid 90 pounds for a 128 gram silver cigarette case victorian era.... my gf thinks I need professional help :) Great find... pity about the size and price...

Can anyone shed light on the comment in Q&A for the brown one about 'flipped cuffs'?

I don't get it either.

Yes, the trousers are cuffed. These were done in such a way that the cuffs are folded to allow them to be flipped if and when they may become worn out ( they are not worn out now). Quite ingenious actually. There is at least two additional inches of fabric if you wanted to lengthen the trousers

Yes. Except for their color, the two suits are identical in every way.

Actually he says that the trousers of the green one are flat fronted and the brown one are forward/"British" pleated. The brown ones also have a fishtail back, belt loops and a back belt (a lot of options for one pair of trousers :p). He didn't show any pictures of the green trousers.

The first (and I'll bet that it will be the only) bid on this suit has been made by the man whose catering company is leasing the Oviatt building's penthouse and rooftop. He's the only serious collector out there of vintage Oviatt's merchandise, and he rarely loses. (In fact, he is often the only bidder.)

i'm wondering if this is actually fabric from the 20s made into a suit in 1941.
the cinch and belt loops combo looks very 20s, so perhaps the owner had grown up in that era and requested these details ?

Not necessarily. Certain traditional American clothiers --Brooks Brothers being the most famous example-- continued to regularly include cinch-back / belt loop combos in their RTW trousers (both suit and odd trousers) into the 1950s.
