I agree that it depends on the hat.

Of all my few hats, the only one I got any decent results with was my 1940s, 2 1/2" snap-brim Royal Stetson, and it only worked on that one side:

I know. I just mentioned it because I think that he wears a mix of vintage and vintage inspired contemporary. I saw him interviewed the other day wearing a DB pinstripe suit which appeared to be vintage '30s but was actually Tom Ford.

This porkpie from Art just fell into this shape. When I first put it on, I reached to the brim with my right hand to tug it down - it just naturally went into the swoop. Art said he didn't do it on purpose. It's just what the hat wanted to do.

I love the hollywood brim, and have managed to finally work one into one of my hats, my new panama. As soon as I have a decent fur felt fedora, it will get similar styling to this. I essentially style the brim so that it has a standard snap a little left of my left eye, instead of center.

edit: and the pictures are mirrored. that is interesting.

The Hollywood brim looks great! :eusa_clap Bolthead(Kurt) also uses the hollywood brim to great effect. Not sure I can pull it off but will have to give it a try.

I also started, quite some time ago now, to use a variation of the Hollywood brim on most of my hats, as can be seen in the photo below. The hat sits perfectly level (looking from the front), it's just the brim that's been tilted.

The idea is to blend the off-kilter angle of the Hollywood brim with a maximum swoop on the front brim. The initial inspiration for this kind of brim treatment I took from Jimmy Stewart in 'It's A Wonderful Life':

Bogey also tended to give his brims a similar tilt, even though not that exaggerated.

I just watched "The Dain Curse" from 1978 but set in 1928. James Coburn had the same swoope. Can you give some pics from different angles?

Nicely formed Mario, looks very swish on you..I prefer that bend of the brim for myself as well, i have something like that on a couple of hats. for me it developed from wearing my worn out country style Akubra's (coober pedy and snowy river's as work hats), just came about by accident before i ever knew about the old flicks, due to the hats being worn all day in the rain and then drying in the shape that i liked so i could see out my left side while my face was protected from the right in bad weather and wind, from there i like putting it in, but not so extreme on my dress hats.

i am not sure how you folk get these picture grabs from the movies ... but didnt Spencer Tracy have the same sort of bend/swoop as well, fairly extreme if i remember correctly?
