holding in a liner?

Hello all,

I'm rebuilding a Stevens that I bought on Ebay. I've just put in the new sweatband (thanks Mthatter!), and now I'm getting ready to make a new liner. My plan is to make a new one out of satin fabric purchased at a fabric store (no way of getting an original "Stevens" liner).

I can see that the old liner was secured by dabs of glue below the sweatband, any idea what kind of glue I should use if I go with that method? Also, how do you keep the liner up? I tried spraying another liner with starch to keep it stiff and in place, but when the weather is warm the starch transfers to my hair. I end up with 3rd degree "hat hair" that can deflect bullets.

I saw in modern hats, from the 70's to this days that most of the liners was fixed using some kind of silicone, that can be aplied with a heat gun, but if you want to do it in the old style you have to use the needle.
I belive that silicon will work, but personally dont like it.

A nail?

I think that a nail might be a bit too much of a permanent solution, and it might hurt too.

If it were my hat, I would do it like the vintage hats. Use a needle and thread instead of the glue. I hate glued in liners. Fedora

A few one inch strips of scotch tape will hold the liner in place while you do the sewing.
If fact, they will hold it in place for a while even if you don't do the sewing.
