Hola Friends! I write to say "hi" to the group as I'm a long time lurker/reader and a new member. I have enjoyed your discussion about "all things Hats!" I look forward to reading and posting. Hello to RBH, Douglas, Matt et. al! you guys rock! by the way, what is a "hunter down" brim? What hat brand would you reach for when walkning into the rare hatshop?

apipeguy, Welcome! When walking into any hat shop, I first look for wharever catches my eye and strikes my fancy. The label is secondary. Have fun.

Rare Hatshop

Surely, I don't see many hatshops 'round this town. Most people wear ballcaps or beanies. They buy them at a "mall" or at a baseball stadium. oh yeah! the only people that wear fedoras round here are "Hollywood" types. I'm trying to change that!

1st, welcome.
As far as a vintage Hat goes I like "KNOX"
On the HUNTER DOWN, you are talking about a hat with the brim down back and front. The front brim usually has a extra sharp snap.

Beaver Brand, available through thefedorastore dot com, includes a hunter-downer brim style in their choices, and you can customize other parts as well; crown 'bash,' ribbon width, edge treatment, color. You might have to talk to Duane to be sure.

Welcome

For the most part the members of this forum are gentlemen and eager to help the new members. There is a wealth of information here, for those willing to do the research. Unlike another forum, this group dose not feel that it has to degrade another's hat in order to make his look acceptable. We all have our own style and taste, what I may like, you may not and vice versa. That however does not mean that you are right and I am wrong or vice versa in our choices. Difference is the spice of life, and that includes hats. JMHO

Hola y Q-vo

Pipe dude, welcome to the lounge, what part of Cali are you in. I look for styles that i like then evaluate on quality to price ratio. Hats with leather sweat band tend to be much better built than the cloth sweat bands. But I do own a few cloths because i liked the style.
Buy your first hats after you try them on. Buying from a catalog or ebay is usually a risk. Happy hunting!

Welcome to the Lounge apipeguy, I would definitely reach for the softest most pliable and light weight hat I could find.

Love the new avatar Bud:D
