During this period (mid-60’s) he didn’t want to become some lackey black side kick, Got and gave him an intelligent role or part, Army Electronic Specialist Staff Sgt. He was smart guy; always outwit the Germanys in camp.
I also saw his portrayal as Viet Nam veteran in some play I can’t recall the name off hand, but he was a good guy, great director.

He also guest starred on the series premiere of I Spy, "So Long, Patrick Henry." He did a fantastic job.

What a great guy. :(

As a huge Hogan's Heroes fan, I was so sad to hear this news. I loved his character, Kinchloe.

May he rest in peace.

I grew up in an all-white town, and went to an all-white school. It was watching "Hogan's Heroes," of all things, that taught me as a little girl that there were people in the world who weren't the same color as I am -- but that such things shouldn't be important. What mattered was working together for the common good.

Kinch was always my favorite of the Heroes, and I was quite upset when he left the show. It was only years later that I realized he'd gone on to a distinguished career as a director, and that he'd always insisted on integrity in his work. And then I admired him even more.

.

Most probably this one Hondo;

Story about an African American soldier in Vietnam. It focuses on the past and present of a war-weary GI who, after 20 years of professional soldiering, begins a quest for life. Master Sergeant Olly Winter, winding up a long career, is serving as an advisor in Vietnam. When his platoon is ambushed by the Viet Cong, Olly, the only survivor, sets out on the long trek back to safety. Along the way he picks up company, a young Vietnamese girl, her dog, and an orphaned baby. The girl doesn't understand English, but Olly talks to her--and himself about the wars he's seen, his family, and the life he plans to lead 'If I get out of here alive.'

Thats it!!! Thanks allot!!! The years have taken a toll on my brain,
but you are correct sir! This was a live drama on TV, if not mistaken it was in black & white, very realistic, war drama, Ivan Dixon was a great actor, and LizzieMaine said it better, that he'd always insisted on integrity in his work. And then I admired him even more.
I fully agree, it speaks volumes of the man, and for all young people to seek advancement to better ones self, R.I.P. Mr. Dixon :(

He was always memorable even in the sometimes small parts that he did in television. I especially liked his thoughtful portrayal in the Outer Limits episode "The Inheritors" which also starred Robert Duvall and James Shigeta.
