Hey gents,

Been poking around the lounge for some time now and finally decided to join. I've got an Agnoulita in the works and I wanted to ask what your experience has been regarding shrinkage of the head bands and/or the rabbit fur felt.

I know for Akubras they tend to get snug after breaking in so it's a consideration in terms of sizing. Do you find Agnoulita's fit changed much after breaking in?

Cheers,
Gene

Thanks Daniel! I've actually been pleasantly surprised after reading about how many people have had to wait a while to hear back from him. I contacted him through Etsy and he responded to my first few messages within 24 hours and I'm just settling on some details on my end before moving forward! Hopefully it will continue in this fashion. Will definitely post when the time comes with a first impressions review.

Just to say I recently purchased a hat from Agnoulita. To put things in perspective, this is my first breakaway from factory ready-made fedoras right out of a hat store. I am most pleased with the hat, which is basically the Angoulita Hispano with significantly less taper. Looks right, fits right, feels right, and gives all indications of good quality. Mr. P is most gracious to do business with. The price, shipping included, was no more than any of my store-bought fedoras. I would certainly consider Agnoulita a viable option for obtaining a fedora shaped to ones preference.

Hey man, do you any photos wearing this hat?

I like that the hat is blocked instead of open crown where you hand crease by youself. do you happen to know which block the seller used.

I got to ask: why do you like factory creased hats over open crown hats you can crease yourself?

For the hat you’re asking about, Mr. P at Agnoulita probably used an open crown block and someone at the shop did the creasing. To me, it doesn’t have the look of a hat made with a block that has the crease shape. Most of the custom hatters will shape your hat for you if you don’t want to do it yourself. Creasing a nice piece of felt is a great experience and I’ve ordered all but one of my custom hats with an open crown. Shaping a virgin crown is one of the best parts about ordering a custom hat.

Curious on how your Agnoulita turned out and how the customer service was. We’d love to hear about it when you have the time.

I have a great many clients in NY City and the NEast in general. Most of them want open crown so they can have the fun of creasing it themselves. It looks so much more personal and stylish to have a personal hand creased fedora than a factory induced, machine made crease.

That’s the thing, everyone likes something different. It’s what makes us unique as people.

It’s not hard to make it perfectly symmetrical if that’s what you’re after.

As the best quality hats came, and still come, open crown, the machine pressed crease is sort of a giveaway that the hat is a cheaper model. It came about in large part when felt quality was in steep decline and the poor quality felt wasn’t conducive to open crowns and personal shaping. It’s also from a time when hat wearing was in decline and men were buying hats as a novelty rather than an everyday accessory.

It’s your hat, and you should get what you like. However, if you haven’t experienced great felt and an open crown you should give it a try sometime:

Let me it clear, I mean blocked professional by the hat maker with the proper tools. Not, by machine.
