On their etsy webpage, how do you let them know what colo you want?

I’m not sure how to select color on his pre-designed hats. I just send him a message from any of this hat links (usually from his listing of the type of hat body I wanted him to use e.g. Antelope) and told him what I wanted:

Felt color
Felt type (dress weight, suede, velour, etc.)
Finish (extra fine pouncing: N/A on velour)
Crown height (6 to 6.5” for me)
Crown shape (#52: minimal taper block)
Brim width
Brim treatment (bound, narrow binding etc.)
Binding color
Crown ribbon width and color
Leather sweatband color
Size (62 long oval for me)
Crown: (open crown for me)
Type of bow
Amount of stiffness (very soft, medium body, stiff brim with soft crown, etc.).
Etc.

I often include a photo of a similar hat.

Make sure you tell him you’re from The Fedora Lounge.

If you are buying a pre-designed hat, there is a place for you to add a note to the seller and you could include the color there; otherwise, I think his pre-designed hats come in the color shown.

Are you thinking of a fedora or another homburg?

Homburg. He has a black homburg called the signature on his etsy site I am thinking of. There is a color palate with it so I assume it can be ordered with different colors. I do not need another black one because I have a Beaver Brand.

The Fedora Lounge won’t authorize their name being used for the hat. Over a month has gone by without a response. Agnoulita doesn’t want to run afoul of copyright laws so he decided to just offer a discount to Lounge members. That’s where we left it. I’ll bring up the matter again when it looks like he has more time. We had thrown around a price of $125 including shipping to the US. Rather than one model he proposed a semi-custom where members could chose color, crown height, brim width, brim treatment, and ribbon color and width. I think there would be interest and I know I’d buy another.

If/when this works out I’ll post details here.

If I can buy his signature homburg in a shade of brown for $125 including shipping I may go for it. I doubt he would go that low. With a leather sweatband it's would be 145 with 25 shipping which is not bad to begin with.

The $125 price was just something we had talked about as he was looking for a price point that would get the most interest while at least allowing him to break even. The last I heard, he was not ready to offer the special pricing yet.
I don't think anybody would expect him to work for free and just break even. His prices seem fair to begin with.

I feel the need to address Agnoulita’s poor email response time as it is the thing I dislike the most about the company. I’ve bought nine hats from them so I consider myself a good customer and I’m not just wasting their time. This is the email I received from the owner earlier today:

“Things have been really crazy busy after my return and I am doing my best to catch up with orders. I work from 06:30 till 21:30 every day, 7 days a week. I hate leaving your messages unanswered for so long, so once you send me a new message please give me a ring on my cell phone and I will get back to you in a couple of hours.”

Sounds more than fair to me. I just wanted to clear the air on his lack of communication. I’ve had his cell number for months but I’ve never called it as I prefer a written record that email affords.

I’m going ahead with my wide brim latte.

Very understandable. I have a friend who studied in the Harvard Kennedddy School. She told me that when she graduated she was given a pair of small toy shoes, so she would never forget to put herself in other people's shoes.

I think one you decide on would carry a premium. Especially if it's stamped on the sweatband. A sweet beaver would be perfect, one no one else is offering to make it exclusive!

Go high with the nicest hat.

Just my opinion - and I know everyone has got one :)

I can’t see that helping them sell :)

I hope he offers an entry level rabbit fur felt at around the $125 price point and a Winchester beaver fur felt at the $200ish price point.

My navy velour rabbit fur felt arrived today. They offer two shades of navy and this is the lighter of the two:

Six inch open crown, 2 3/4 brim, 12 mm (narrow) navy brim binding and charcoal ribbon.

I only have one vintage velour and it’s from c1960, well after the decline in continental velours. This velour does not in any way compare to even the 1960s velour. It is nowhere as plush or soft; very different. This is not to disparage this modern Tonak velour. No hats made today are the equivalent of those made generations ago.

Now, on its own merits, this hat is quite nice. It is a nice change from more common finishes and the hand is what I was expecting. The build quality is very good, the fit is spot-on, and the sweat is as nice as any hat I’ve owned.

I’ll order another Agnoulita velour in the future and that’s the highest praise I can give it. Well done, Mr. P.

Excellent! How does this color compare to the marine blue?

Mr. P said this color was similar to the Marine Blue. I didn’t want the other shade of navy that was described as a dark blue-black. This hat was all about texture. I also have a thing for blue hats. I think the Antelope/Suede finish is more versatile, but this velour will see lots of use come autumn.

My latest Agnoulita:

The color is “Latte” and it’s the standard weight rabbit fur felt (the suede felts aren’t big enough for the proportions I requested). The brim is just over 3 1/8” and the crown is just under 6.5”. Exactly as ordered.

The hat is nicely finished and of the same high quality of my last few Agnoulitas.

Just when I think I’ll stop ordering hats from Mr. P and give something else a try he comes up with a hat that is just what I wanted. I’m now looking at ordering two more.
