This is from a website I like to check out from time to time. This is how I keep tabs on the sad situation with the SS France/Norway. Anyway, this story is exceptionally fascinating, about a great Australian ship.

Cool pix, too. It's an area of the War we in the States don't hear much about. Enjoy!
Reads like the RMS Olympic, Cruise ship, pressed into service during the war, returned to civilian service with a long and successful history. It is a shame they cannot be saved for future generations

Boy, as someone reading a lot of WW II lately, I'd like to know more about Austarlia's war. Like our west coast, there was a threat of Japanese invasion, but a real one, not imagined. There have been 1 or 2 PBS/BBC series about it, but not much that lays out the overall involvement of your country. Must be a LOT of interesting stories.
I still don't understand how you people manage to function, walking around upside down all the time! :p

It helps when you can drink beer upside down - you should try it one time... as a party trick...amaze your friends.:) :) :) ;)

Seriously in my area we have the Defence of Sydney Monument and have just had the 60th anniversary of the Japanese submarines who entered Sydney Harbour to attack the US ships and only managed to sink the naval training ship "Kuttabul" with the loss of 19 naval ratings. Recently they re-discovered the midget sub that was lost outside the Sydney Heads (that was part of the small flotilla - the other was torpedoed inside Sydney Harbour) and they had an elaborate ceremony with the Japanese family of the former commander - with full naval honours.

Re the Z force and the "Krait". This launch is still working as part of the Coastal Patrol having been refitted years ago. http://www.coastalpatrol.org.au/history/mvkrait.htm

Here is the story of one of the most courageous and successful commando exploits of WWII IMHO:
