I think what appealed to me about Julia Child is that she was so relatable. When I watch her, I feel like I too could cook whatever she was cooking.
Right now my favorite cooking show is Julie Tabouli on PBS. She started as a local show in NYS created from a grant to teach community college students television production. I saw her on Virginia PBS the other day. I've never made anything direct she's made, but I've been inspired plenty.
I like cooks country for explaining the *why* behind cooking, but 90% of what they do is beyond my patience level. They covered croissants one day, and if I had that much time I would work a second job to fill my (apparently) boundless days.
