In the movie Hildalgo. Hopkins rides up at the end of the movie wearing a hat that resembles a cross between a western hat and a fedora. Does anyone here have any info on this hat?

Thanks Lancealot
But the hat I am looking at is the replacement hat we see at the end of the movie. It looks like it has a grosgrain ribbon and is bashed in a teardrop bash. Very Fedora looking. I will talk to barens they probably made both hats! Hey Mr Lucky! Yeah AMC is one of my favorite chanels

I think that this is the one you are looking for. Sort of an early fedora style with a pencil rolled brim.

One hat company I had talked with when this movie came out was Jackson Hole Hat Company out of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They would were more than willing to reproduce this hat as a custom. You might want to start with them and go from there. This should be an easy one for them to reproduce.
You may even want to send a few of these pics to Art and see what he can come up with.

Cheers!

That's a fabulous hat. (As is the entire getup, really.) Think I'll attempt crafting one (or more) myself, just as soon as I can find a good curling shackle at a reasonable price.

That style could find a wide audience, I'd guess. It would appeal to the Western wear faction (probably the most reliable hat buyers, year in and year out) as well as the guys who wouldn't be seen in a pair of pointy-toed boots or a shirt with faux-pearl snaps and embroidered peacocks.

I'd get Mike Moore, majormoore to do it. http://www.buckaroohatters.com/

He'd do it for a great price and he even has the antique tools to make a pencil roll the way they did it back then. Of course he also makes a fantastic Boss of the Plains style with the flat top and wide flat brim.

I think that would be a great hat to have made and it would be very unique. That is one thing abut western hats, there are so many ways you can go that custom making one can give you a truly one of a kind hat or nearly so and it will look it too. People will say I've never seen one like that.

Thanks for the good word Warbird. Got to block three Boss of The Plains hats, all 100%, natural, in western weight, need to get them gone by July 15th to NV.
