I like the jacket. I am nearly the same height and weight, on the pictures 2015 a little more weight . I wouldn't change the length. Here you can see my 2 brown highwayman size 38 (one breast pocket) and size 36(2 pockets):

What hide are your jackets , and what lengths are the backs , and sleeves ?
Also, do you have the knitted cuffs in the sleeves , and do you think the jacket is better with or without them ?

The hide is brown front quarter Horsehide (FQHH). Back length 25'25. Sleeves 23.5 (short arms ) Yes i have storm cuffs and i like them.

Looks great! The HWM can be a challenge to get the fit right on - a lot of people take what is essentially intended to be, by design, a boxy jacket and try to make it snugger by sizing down significantly, but that doesn't always work. To my eye, you've got it bang on.

My HWM is exact to the standard pattern (bought as an apprentice-made model in 2012). As it's totally stock, it lacks an inside pocket, and it has the storm cuffs. If I was buying again and ordering to my own spec, I'd probably add an inside pocket on the right (though that said, the standard outer breast pocket is pretty sizeable and I don't really* miss the inside pocket with it). Storm cuffs..... I'm on the fence. They don't bother me at all, though if I was looking for a warmer-weather leather, I'd probably go without them, and opt for a lighter hide like the goat.

Edward you might be on the fence regarding storm cuffs if you lived where I do in N Texas. You make a valid point that the HWM is a boxy design perhaps not meant to be slimmed down.

Regarding the fit, I normally think of myself as size 40 chest , so this 38 jacket is one size down from that . But I must have put a few pounds on , because my chest now measures 42",so this try-on jacket is ,in fact , two sizes down .
With just a shirt , and T-shirt under that, it seems to fit ok - though obviously the jacket feels a bit stiff . With a sweater as well it feels a bit tight around the chest and shoulders , but I wonder if it will feel less tight as the jacket wears in , and loosens up.
Movement feels a little restricted also - can anyone tell me how much difference wearing in makes to this ?

IMO it looks good from the front, but the back seems a little baggy. The pit to pit at 23" seems too much for a size 38 and I think that accounts for the bagginess.

Yes 23 inches is a size 42 which is what Wade at Thurston always says. They are two sizes too big. The body looks pretty chunky. It looks fine but not perfect. I think these look better on men with a larger build. I'd go a 1930's half-belt or a premier Hwy-Man if I were you.

If you ride, I would go with the storm cuffs. If the jacket will be for knocking about town, I would leave them off. I have the storm cuffs on my Highwayman, which I bought for a riding jacket. Never really notice them except when checking the time. Have to pull them up to see my watch.

That song probably had more to do with my quitting my Wall St. job, going back to graduate school, and becoming a college prof. than any other factor: "What a jolly bad show/ if all you ever do/ is business you don't like." BTW, I had the day off today because Obama was speaking at my college and in the very building where I have my office. Nice surprise!

I have an Aero motorcycle jacket which is pretty well worn in and feels quite soft and pliable and is FQHH. I was going to order my Highwayman in FQHH also ,but the try-on jacket is in Steerhide and I quite like it. IMO it looks shinier ( when new, anyway ).
Has anyone got an opinion on which is tougher , nicer or ages better ?

Not too sure which 'which is tougher, nicer or ages better', but I do have both options & love them equally. The steerhide isn't loved around here, generally, as much as the FQHH. I'm really not sure why to be honest. I love my 2 steerhide jackets as much as my 2 FQHH AERO's. I'd say change it up and have one of each.

Hey Trevor, I actually audibly let out some "wow, that looks really good" 's multiple times looking at those pics. I was expecting something sloppy because like others have said the highwayman seems like a tricky fit because it's pretty boxy.

Does it feel big at all anywhere? If not, I think you should get those exact dimensions, everywhere. Disagree with those saying you should lengthen the sleeves, i think they look perfect as is. And those saying they shrink/crease etc, I think that's mainly because when you buy them too long they'll end up creasing more, particularly around the wrist as they bunch up against your hand. If you don't have them that long, they'll end up at the same place, they just won't be creased there, which I think looks better.

Also disagree with Superfluous saying that a higher rise means you should be getting a longer jacket, if anything a higher rise means the shorter jackets work better. If you have a low rise jean, then you need to wear something longer on top so it doesn't look like you have a croptop jacket.

I'm new here and just looking for my first Aero, so take my input with a grain of salt...

I think the fit's great. I lean towards a little extra length in jackets and think that the one you're wearing looks perfect (not LONG, but not too short). As for sleeve length, I'd consider adding a 1/2" but think 1" might be a bit more than necessary.

I was surprised about a previous comment about the back looking too bulky. I think it's perfect, but I lean towards the 50's styles rather than the tighter 30's cuts.

I've learned a lot from your pics so thanks. And I'm another ID fan. Several weeks ago I visited relatives near Billericay, and I couldn't get "Billericay Dickie" out of my head! "I'm doing rather well..."

Agree on slightly lengthening the sleeves (not less than +0.5" not more than +1"), and strongly agree on not extending the length in front or back. My own heavy horse HWM is a 42 and I wish it was as long in back as yours, instead I'm always worried whether it's a hair too short and I'm getting the belt-peekaboo effect (and I usually wear a 42 suit jacket, so go figure re: HWM sizing). For the same reason, I would not make your jacket any shorter - it looks perfect in body length to me.

Mine came with double thickness cuffs, which I like very much even though they're a PITA to stuff into the pockets, and storm cuffs, which were annoying for watch-checking and jacket doffing and I soon surgically removed.
