High Large Leather review

As I said in my previous post, I am traveling to China and I am in a quest for finding a good deal for a Japanese leather jacket there. I eventually stumbled upon this jacket by High Large Leathers. I have always been curious about this brand since 2018 but they were just so rare. Apparently, it has the same owner as Fine Creek Leather as the owner’s name can be literally translated to High Large Fine Creek. The special thing about this jacket is the fact that it uses the crazily thick 2.3mm horsehide which is unheard of for Shinki horsehide. Its design also looks good to my eyes, not something too flashy like a Freewheeler, but solid Amekaji style. So I would like to ask if anyone has any experience with High Large Leather? Does it have great construction? How does the leather feel on this one? And more importantly, how does it compare to other denim style leather jackets made by other big names like double helix, Aero,… To be honest, I am obsessed by the fact that it uses 2.3mm horsehide, but still trying to figure out if it’s worth spending $1700 on this.

From the photos, it seems like the model buttoned it up just fine . Agree it may take time to loosen it up. I spent around 1-2 hour loosening up the buttons for my 25oz Samurai jeans, but after the initial struggle and pain, I believe they will be amazing pieces. But again since I haven’t seen this jacket in person, I need someone with experience to tell me how the leather feels like on this one. From what I read, even though it’s 2.3mm horsehide, the leather is soft and supple. It may be from Himeji tannery instead of Shinki (the source is mot specified on the vendor’s page)

I believe I have the same High Large jacket as you posted. I also have a Fine Creek Trucker. The Fine Creek jacket is sold as Shinki Horsehide, which it feels/looks like. The High Large jacket was not advertised as Shinki and does not resemble Shinki. They are different leathers indeed. I don't now the thickness of either, but the High Large is not a thick un bending leather in any way. It has heft, but also flexibility making it a very comfortable wearing jacket. I have hundreds of vintage jackets and I find myself wearing my HIgh Large often. It is very comfortable to wear and looks great in Brown.

It's look very nice.
I don't own this one yet but i wore a fcl Leon 2.0mm and Richmon.
My friend is a second hand dealer has sold quite a few fcl different ones.
The leather is thick, soft and holds its shape.
The cuffs look great after long wear.
They fade pretty quickly. but it's not a problem if you take care of them.

It looks beautiful! Really makes me want to spend 1700 lol. Can you give me an advice on sizing? I am 42 in most Japanese leather jackets Real mccoy, rainbow country,… Does this one run small or true to size?

Mine is a 44 and fits as such. I bought mine in the classified here. Paid a lot less than $1700, it was on here for months until I had the money to buy it.

I wear it, I have it hangin nearby for everyday use. Very classy jacket. Like you, I had been a fan for a long time. I know nothing about their other jacket styles or leathers.

I have a High Large Type 1 (it's called the Oklahoma). The leather is very cool, but I don't think it's Shinki and it isn't super-thick. It isn't thin but it certainly isn't super heavy.

You need a 46, trust me. They make them in a 46. My Fine Creek Virginia Beach is a 46. At your size, try one on? or get a return fit guarantee if you can't. I could not wear my High Large size 44 at your weight and height. I'm 5'9" 174 pounds, with a decent shirt, no room for more.

Im not trying to disappointment you, I love both mine, I'm trying to prevent one.

They pop up on Japanese second hand once in a while, but could be an infinite wait for your size

wow, thanks for the information! That means that runs crazily small since my normal size is 42. The largest size that vendor has is 44 so I would probably get that and return if it does not fit. What size do you usually get for other brands?

The model i have doesn't. My flat head 38 feels a full size smaller. I would go by the measurements

Chiming in with some info here.

High Large was indeed Fine Creek before Fine Creek was a thing. Then the label went defunct. But now, with Fine Creek's success, it is being brought back with special linings (vintage cowboy blankets) and thicker leathers and a higher price point than fine creek or fine creek & co. Arcturus and naked sun are also part of fine creek I believe.

Some models claim 2.3mm leather, some 1.6mm leather. Whle fine creek has been accused of overestimating their leather thicknesses in the past, these leathers will certainly be the thickest they've used.

So even if you were to find a 2nd hand piece, it wouldn't quite be the same thing.

Absolutely no way that is 2.3mm , not a chance. I would say more like 1.3mm max

Honestly, I'd say it runs TTS except for the sleeve length. I'm 5'9, so the sleeves fit me fine, but most size 42's would probably need longer sleeves. These Type 1's are supposed to fit pretty boxy, so I have plenty of room but it still looks great.
