Hi guys im new here had a question about my new schott perfecto 618

Also one other thing: after a couple days of wearing the size 42 for most of the day each day, i noticed some loose stitching near the left sleeve opening (photo attached). There's no hole though thankfully. I didn't inspect the jacket after first receiving it in the mail because i just trusted the quality of Schott's workmanship and i ordered direct from Schott's website. So i don't know if that loose stitching was there from the start or if it happened after wearing it for a couple days. I didn't do anything weird with the jacket I just wore it and went about my business. No sharp objects came near that area of the jacket or anything. One thing that comes to mind is that i did wash the dishes with the jacket on a couple times, so i'm thinking maybe the soap and water getting onto the jacket may have caused this to happen? I really don't know and it sounds nonsensical but that's just what came to mind. I know these jackets are built to last so I'm wondering what happened. I'm still going to wear it though.

The shoulders on mine make the jacket a little snug in that area. I would not say it restricts my movement at all. I would say my jacket is starting to break in but has some more to go. I am sure I will get caught in the rain sometime. It has mainly seen indoor use so far. They seem to take awhile to break in. I put my horsehide 618 in the washer with cold water, then the drier with no heat. A 618 can take some punishment and dish it out also.

The main purpose is riding, but I also wear it for everything else also. I think your jacket will get better with time (maybe a long time).

I'm in the same boat where my jacket is snug in the shoulders but doesn't restrict movement at all. The shoulders feel comfortable when in riding position but when standing up and walking around, the shoulders feel rather tight but still i have full range of movement. Definitely looking forward to the break in process and i know it's a decently long process. I know this jacket fits right on me so it's just a matter of breaking it in.

This looks like factory QC . Unless you were tugging at it and trying to stretch it . Send a picture to Jeri at Schott

nope wasn't tugging at it. Just emailed Schott with a pic.

You think a replacement would be better than just having it fixed? Would having it fixed weaken the sleeve and make it more probable of the stitches coming loose again in the future?

If that’s it then it is an easy fix. Of course, since it’s new, I don’t think Schott will push back on a new jacket.

I had mine out today on the m/c before the Browns game. 68 degrees when I left, 81 when I came back. The arms are broken in pretty good, but the body needs a little more time.

Sucks about your sleeve stitching. Let us know what Schott has to say. I am sure it is fixable if you want.

Yeah but those issues are just sizing related im pretty sure. Waiting for it to break in to see if it indeed is too small or not.

Do you guys think this jacket is the right size for me? Im a chest size 41 and this is a size 42 schott perfecto 618 (same one ive been talking about). Its brand new not broken in yet. Been wearing and moving around in it for the last few days for hours each day. Ive heard that these jackets dont stretch, ive heard that they do "open up" considerably after breaking in, so i dont know. The shoulders end where theyre supposed to i believe, as do the sleeves (i want the sleeves to end at the wrists, not rest on the hands much, as that way i can put my hands in my jean pockets without trouble. Plus im not gonna be riding in this jacket.) Also i can move around in it just fine, especially compared to the first time i tried it on.

I think it looks good/snug. You could probably go with the 44 and be ok also since you don't ride.

I would post fit picks, but I never have a photographer around and the only mirror I have is in the bathroom and is head high.

If you're not riding, I would highly suggest 118. You can wear a size 40 no problem. In fact, it'll be slightly relaxed. I see the issue you're saying now that you provided pics. I think a 44 on the 618 is going to be way too big. I think the 42 you're wearing is right on the edge of being too tight. Your biceps are too big for it.

The 40 118 is that in between ground you need. Will have roomier sleeves and shoulder, more room in the gut, and an essentially already broken in leather. I wouldn't recommend 118 for hardcore moto riding because it's naked. But for fashion, it's great. The 600 series leather is made for moto riding. It's thick top coat. Will take years to break in.

Sometimes we just have to realize that a certain jacket is not going to fit. A lot of us have cycled through jackets trying to hone in shoulder to chest ratio, body taper, etc. The good thing with Schott is there are like 20 variations of that Perfecto. It takes a little research and trial/error to figure out what are the little differences with all of them.

If it's your life long dream to own a 618, I would get a 44 and then have it altered.

I'd like to keep this jacket. Once this jacket (the one im wearing) breaks in (even if it takes years), will it fit better on me meaning a bit more loose? There's a guy on youtube who does leather jacket videos and in one of his videos he said his schott 613 perfecto (which is the same cut as the 618, just has the one star and no snaps on the upper collar) was snug at first but then opened up and now it fits him like a glove. He's owned his for 6-7 years and he said it took a couple months of daily wear for it to break in. Heres one of his vids (theyre all short 2-5 min long videos) :

That first video he talks about how new schott perfecto 618/613 buyers need to see past the initial rigidity of a brand new perfecto versus a broken in one because the two feel very different and the jacket opens up with time.

And heres one more video where he says his 613 was snug at first but then opened up perfectly and now fits him like a glove:

The 613 looks realllly good on him it fits him so well. Hes a 39.5 inch chest and his 613 is a size 40. He says that leather jackets, including the 613 open up with time. So his information gives me hope that my schott will eventually fit better. If my jacket is currently bordering on too tight then as long as i can already move freely in it (which i can), then things will only get better from here im thinking. If you dont mind, I'd like to know your thoughts on the 2 youtube videos theyre each less than 4 mins long and i think you'd enjoy watching them. Do these jackets open up after breaking in or do they not?

I would keep it as long as you have mobility. I think it will get a little "easier" to wear as it breaks in. Mine has.. I really don't think they stretch that much, I think the leather becomes easier to move in, if that makes sense.. If you are happy with it, by all means, give it hell.
