We have all had the privilege of seeing the amazing work you guys do - on your customer's heads. What about the hatters themselves? What are YOU folks wearing today? I'd love to see 'em, whatever they may be. Anyone else?

Speak the secrets, speak the wonders

I am occasionally curious about the aesthetic proclivities of our resident hatters and hat merchants.

I've long been curious about the hat, which appears to be a panama of some kind, that Mister Fawcett is wearing in the photograph on his about page and, I presume, his avatar.

I fear that if any of these gentlemen report that they wear ball caps turned around backwards, I cannot be responsible for my actions.

Sorry Delthayre, I forgot to answer you. In my avatar I'm wearing a '40s generic panama ( can't remember the brand) and in the "About us" page it's a '30s Optimo Montecristi. Both are original.

Art, that hat you are wearing is wonderful. Did you make it or is it one of your vintage hats. More important, how close can you come to making one exactly like it. BTW what is the brim size. Great hat.:eusa_clap

Thanks gents. Duggap, yup, I made it for myself just before going south for the Queen event. I realized I had to wear one of my own, rather than vintage. Image dontchaknow!! It's 2 1/2" brim and yes, I can easily duplicate it. I was going to add it to a "Classic" category on my site, if I ever get the time to make that new category happen.

Very nice, Art. When you add it to the site you'll have to name it the 'Art'. :)

The other two gentlemen in your picture are interestingly attired.

Ah, yes...Our own JamesPowers "lounging" wearing the ever demure RED smoking attire, and brother Nathan, the other half of BarbiGirl & Nathan..I don't remember what we were discussing but I'm certain it was important as we'd had a few cocktails by this point and world peace could have come up.:p

This is my new favorite thread. Great idea, Mr. Lucky. Art, that hat is fantastic. I love the way the ribbon complements the felt. You have a gift.

Good Lord!

At the risk of getting "off topic", tell us about the suit/shirt/tie combo. That is one helluva outfit, and I'm impressed by the semi-hidden hanky in your vest pocket.

Judging by this photo, you obviously didn't get rid of the entire vintage inventory when you quit the vintage clothing business. Very impressive...

So, How would you describe your suit? Is that Prince of Wales?

You're right Johnniphi, I didn't sell ALL of my collection when quitting. I discovered I had suits that I just couldn't sell. This is late 30' 3 pc Glen plaid. For me, a very conservative suit. The tie is an early 40's nude ( yes, I collected nudie ties) and is very inconspicious while tucked into the waistcoat. A few who knew my style DID ask and were shown. The hankie in the pocket I must confess isn't. It's a pack of smokes.

edit: forgot to answer , the shirt is late 30's also Jonniphi. What you can't pick up in the picture is that there is a red fleck in the plaid- very subtle, that i tried to pick up further with my hat ribbon choice. Yup, the hat was made to look best with this particular suit.
