Very cool. I was surprised by the price, too - it's about the same as you'd expect most Aero jackets to be in the US (based on Insurrection's pricing); I'd expected this one might be upped in price on the basis of being such a specific item, but no. It's not a million miles off what I nearly ordered from Aero years ago - black A2 with slash pockets instead of patch pockets - though I ended up buying a blue label HWM instead.

Following on from this jacket, as my dad made the original that Bowie wore, we're starting work on resurrecting his old label Ruskin. Aside from being featured in Vogue the label had quite the client list... Aside from David Bowie there was Syd Barrett, Anita Pallenberg, Marianne Faithfull, The Beatles, The Stones, Steve Marriot, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Janis Joplin, Marsha Hunt... the list goes on and on!

I've been helping my dad working on the beginings of relaunching Ruskin, its very early days so we haven't made any proper announcements of our plans, but might be of interest to those of you looking at the Heroes jacket :)

Here's a few photos I took this week of the first two samples in the making in his design studio in the Highlands. We're just trying out some patterns, and getting my Dad getting used to the production techniques of making these styles of jackets again. Here's some snaps of him working on, then me trying on the first two Ruskin jackets made in 46 years! He thought you might like to see.

There will be both mens and women's ranges.

Ken's passion for creativity is endless! This looks like a great venture - a different market from the established Aero brand, with a lot of scope.

Yeah, its certainly a different market - personally, its exactly the style of thing I've been dying for him to make again. Very excited to be working on this.

Holly, I really hope your Dad does one day find the time to write that autobiography, it'd be quite a read!

Ahhh the book would be quite a read, if only his memory was a little better! ;)

Am I to understand it’s Ken’s son posting here?

In any case, when I saw this, I got a very mixed feeling, it’s excitement & upset. Here’s why.

Last year, or in 2017, I emailed Ken about “who made the Heroes jacket” that I really want one & can Ken make one. Ken said he made it, then I did a quick search, confirmed. I was so thrilled & insisted Ken on making one. Ken said something along the line of it’s such a basic & mall-like jacket, I was better off finding a 60s original from ebay or something.

Then I went ahead & “created” one that was close, basically a black jerky HH, with shiny chrome hardware, & blue tweed lining (I don’t know the lining of the Bowie jacket but I think blue would look Berlin).

So, now that someone (Ken’s son?) is doing exactly what I wanted.... I just don’t know how to feel, chopped liver?

I need that Ruskin label in a jacket. Would be perfect in a premier HWM, CXL Midnight, top of sleeve zips, silver hardware, royal blue cotton drill liner. I wonder if this would be possible?

Correction about PrettyLemonade, sorry Holly! I thought you are Denny.

Anyway, I can’t wait to order a Heroes jacket in my size. Not sure about the dimensions, sleeve size, shoulders etc. according to the male model it looks pretty straightforward.

I'm sorry you're upset about this. At the time of your request there really was no plans to ever make this jacket. We were approached by Basic Rights about the collaboration, and it took some convincing to do it, but eventually we agreed - it was never a plan to do this jacket as an Aero jacket. My dad has a policy, that generally speaking nothing should leave the factory that wouldn't have after 1959. So, this was outwith the time scale, and the styles of what Aero does. As Edward pointed out earlier, its a very different market from Aero.

Its likely the Bowie jacket will be made in the future, as part of the Ruskin range, but at the moment this is very early days. If you'd like to email me on holly@aeroleatherclothing.com, we can discuss things further.

The Ruskin label won't be fitted in any Aero styles I'm afraid... hopefully you'll find something you like when we launch Ruskin fully. This will be in some time, there's only been one two samples made for now, in only one style so its still early days :)

Will the stuff have the 70’s vibe the Hero jacket has? I’m definitely a fan.

Thrilled to see what styles you and your dad will come up with!

Going by the two jackets you posted here I'm afraid it will be too much 70s vibes for me to pull off comfortably.. we'll see!
