By the way, gang, if you'd like to contact me about specific sizes and interests in vintage shoes, hats, and what-not just go ahead and email me at gene @ genecrippen dot com. Not sure how often I'll check in here at TFL, but vintage goods are one of the few things I consider to be a worthy topic of discussion.

Enough about that. Now just imagine the envy you'll endure being the proud owner of THIS:

The best way to remove it is to buy it. Then you can wear it, and flagellate thyself for being what might have passed as naughty in a boys' school in 1955.

I don't see how this could have even been terribly risque back in the 40's & 50's in men's circles...all one has to do is look at the pulp magazine covers of the era which are far more naughty than this. Then of course there are those Betty Page magazines! :D

Looks to me like she is wearing one of those exercise leotards like those worn on TV exercise shows so not very risque by today's standards. Or am I blind????

Gee that silk hat liner that is in the 20's/30's western hat which was bought by a fellow lounger recently is naughtier than this and it is very tame for even back then. Some of those old cowpokes had hat liners that would really make some blush. Something to look at besides cattle on those lonely trail drives. ;)

Of course no one would have worn this out in the general public. Now this sort of thing is far from shocking. Though of course only a fool would wear this to court, a church or a typical business environment today.

It was around but it wasn't everywhere like you say. The Bettie page mags were pretty risque. It wasn't like today where you would see half naked woman on every ad. Just because you see it more doesn't mean it was the norm then.

Sure, I wasn't meaning to claim out in the general public at all it was the norm. Certainly it would NOT have been polite to wear such a thing in public and even in a smoky bar it probably could have been questionable. The only point I was making is for then or now it is far from the most shocking except perhaps for being on a tie back then. Sailors had far naughtier tatoos back then, but of course in the general public they would have been covered unlike now. Someone on here seemed to take offense at it being shown in today's world....

The Vargas girls prints are far racier than this tie and those were in more widely circulated magazines than underground Betty Page stuff. Though I do seem to recall there were some legal challenges and complaints about those being circulated back in the 40's during the war as being pornographic to some.

I don't want to hijack his classified selling of this tie though! ;) Good luck selling it Gene.
