Daughter is wanting to get her husband a camera for Christmas and she asked me to researcb. They have a newborn coming in January and of course, will share photos on Facebook but also print some out. Looking to spend $350 to $450.

She has seen these two

Canon EOS Rebel T-6 and the Sony Alpha A 5000 are the two she asked me about.

I am sure ease-of-use is going to be high on the list and they will want a camera that in the future could do sports, dance recitals, etc.

Both are good Cameras for the price. The big difference being that the Canon is a traditional SLR (with the R referring to a reflex mirror) while the Sony is a more modern mirror-less design. Also take note that the Sony doesn't have a view finder or hot-shoe (for an external flash). Of the two the Canon is probably better suited to your daughters needs.

Oh snap. she read up and went with the Sony 5000, though I was reading up on the 5100 also. Thinking the lighweight feature won her over. More likely to grab it and put it in his coat, or in her purse or the diaper bag.
