The stetson has moth tracks as seen..and a bit crumpled.
The mexican panama below appears to be indecent shape although i'm not sure if its missing a ribbon or not.

The interior tags under the sweat on the Stetson would help, but 40's-50's is a pretty safe ballpark. There are a handful of those Nutria Quality lids around the lounge.

DH- Assuming i were to sling it somewhere online, how much would you expect it to fetch?
I've been reading that a nutria stetson is a bit uncommon apparently.

I’m not much of a hat appraiser. I’d also need to see the damaged area(s) better. My other big problem is that I really only know what I’d pay for a hat in my size, and in vintage hats size matters. 7 1/4 is a good and popular size, but I’m a 7 5/8+ and that same hat in my size is often twice as much as a 7 1/4.

I see palm hats very similar to yours, with a ribbon treatment of some sort, in the $30 range.

If you want to put it up for sale we have a classifieds section here. It’s your target audience and some serious collectors regularly come by. It’s also a place where the buyers know the market and it’s rare that hats that are overpriced sell. You can list it on the high side and if no one bites you can always lower it. The best part is you get to keep all your money as there aren’t any seller’s or buyer’s fees.

i was basing it on an old post i read somewhere (on this forum) that "vintage habedashers" mentioned that in all his years of hunting vintage, he had never come across a "nutria" - its all relative i suppose but i consider him a serious authority on all things vintage.

carouselvic- He may well have, but i didnt check to see how old this particular remark in question was..i am just now starting to look into these hats so my research is in its infancy.
jlee562- i'm not suggesting i am the sole owner of this model hat, i'm sure it wont be too difficult to find another person who owns one, just basing my remarks on the remarks of one individual who "has bought and sold a lot of hats" as carouselvic stated.
If i find the thread again i'll fill you both in..

jlee562- interesting thread about the history and cool photos, but i'm not sure what you mean by "well represented"? Just to be clear, my initial inquiry was about how common/uncommon this fedora is in todays marketplace...Yes i can post it somewhere an find out soon enough, but as i mentioned earler, i am just now looking into it as we speak.

Well represented as in Stetson made a lot of nutria quality hats.

Um, if you're just looking for someone to throw out a dollar figure that you might be able to fetch on eBay....well, I decline.
