I really like the look of the cap. Wonder how the felted wool will stand up compared to woven tweed?
I reached out to the folks at Gamble & Gunn regarding this cap.

Here's their response about the durability vs tweed;

"It should do well in weather, but tweed is definitely more durable, if it does get wet, please ensure it is dried away from a heat source. I would avoid getting it too wet to be honest to be on the safe side."

I have a newsboy cap commissioned from AmiCharnel (alas he no longer seems to be making them). It has a waterproof layer between the tweed and the lining. It is my 'go to' foul weather hat and the tweed (Harris) is indestructable. I suspected the felted wool would have some downside. Thanks,

Hello! I recently purchased a Fedora at a garage sale of a family that was moving for $1, (they said the hat belonged to their departed grandfather.) After further inspection and research I can’t seem to find ANYTHING about what this hat is, although I’ve seen numerous articles about Borsalino having a Zenit hat in the early 1900’s. I’ve yet to find any photos to identify it! Please help me understand what I have and the history behind it. Thank you!

This really looks like a modern hat to me. Can you fold back the leather sweatband and find the factory label? It should be glued to the felt that is covered by the leather sweatband. Normally it’s at the back of the hat near the sweatband seam. You might also have to move the liner and/or reed tape to see it. If you can add a photo of that label it would help a lot.

Hello everyone, recently I became the owner of a Stetson made under licence in Australia. I’m unsure of the style, although I have reasons to believe it’s a whippet. There is only the brand and logo on the sweat band, no mention of type of hat. I am struggling to date this hat or even confirm if it should be a whippet. Part of me is wondering if it’s not as “legit vintage” as I first thought. Any help, much appreciated.

The binding looks too narrow for it to be a Whippet…that’s one of the defining characteristics of the Whippet.
