The only way to successfuly dye the jacket is to go full atomic. Stripped down to the bone with acetone. You'd literally need to dissolve the oil in acetone and bring the rest of the jacket to the same state. It's not fun. It can be done but I don't think it's even remotely worth it. A simple and quick fix (besides what has already been mentioned) is URAD dark brown. It sits on top of the leather and you can feather it into the stain. It will darken the seal? vic to a dark seal.
Hey thx for the idea. I will not try to dye it. I've taken it to the dry cleaners. They will be sending it out to a place that specializes in leather cleaning. So we will see.

I have a fantastic cape skin A1 flight jacket from ELC, took the Wife out to a restaurant put the jacket on the back of a chair and on picking it up to leave found oil stains (presumably olive oil). I tried several things, sent it to a couple of specialists & it made no difference. I then figured a real issued A1 would have served a practical purpose & picked up all manner of marks and stains (inc oil). From that point I’ve just worn and enjoyed it & no longer fretted….

One other option is to sew a blood chit on the back to cover the stain. There are so many styles and materials (leather, silk, cotton) and it would still be period correct/accurate for a WWII style A-2 jacket.

Flight suits Ltd used to make one very nice one. Gibson&Barnes is the same company now. They are not cheap but the better ones I have seen. I have some leather originals. They are an arm and a leg.
