Help!!!!! New Adventurebilt Deluxe

I'm ordering a Adventurebilt Deluxe next month and I'm hoping one of you kind gentlemen or ladies could help me, I have a Akubra Fed deluxe IV with a centre crease but this touches the top of my head which I don't like, is there a crease which will give me more internal crown height to stop this problem, any advice will be greatly appreciated, this is my first post so please be gently with me if this has been asked before, the cost of this hat is 599 euro with a 12 month wait, so I want to get it right first time, thank you in advance for any comments.

If the crown is taller on the Adventurebilt than the Fed IV it is less likely your head will touch with the center dent. My head lightly touches in my Fed IV but not my Penman which has a taller crown (custom Indy hats seem to have taller crowns than the Fed). A teardrop crease with a dome in the middle is another option.

I'd like to ask a couple questions:

1. how deep is your center crease? On most of my hats, it's less than an inch deep, and none of them really touch my head.

2. Are you sure that your fed 4 fits you properly? Does it move about on your head at all while you're wearing it? Does it touch the top of your ears? If either of these is the case, you might want to consider a tighter hat, which would sit higher on your head and thus it's crown would be less likely to touch the top of your head.

Thank you Rogera for the info it is very much appreciated, I will ask Stefan what the the crown height is before being creased to give me a better idea , and a teardrop crease might be the answer. Thank you again for your input.

Hi Mulceber, The centre crease is less than an inch, and it does not move on my head, if the weather here gets bad I can pull it down, so it does touch my ears so I don't lose it in the wind, any advice re fit from you is very much appreciated. Thank you very much

Hmm...interesting - sounds like the hat fits properly and there isn't anything weird about the crease. I guess I'd agree with what others have said and suggest that you discuss this with Marc, as he should be able to make a hat that won't touch the top of your head.

First thing, talk with Marc about your concerns. No one will be able to answer that question better then him. Marc and I are good friends and we talk shop a lot. It's not so much the crown height but the block shape with crown height. I know Marc's blocks and they and this should be a big concern because his blocks aren't as tapered as the fed4. Again, questions like this should go directly to the hat maker.

First, let me say that I agree completely with those who have recommended that you discuss this with Marc, who will surely be able to provide a hat for you that fits properly regardless of how the crown is shaped.

Second, if all else fails, a teardrop, diamond, or c-crease will most definitely provide the extra interior head room you want. I shaped my first Fed IV with a simple center dent, which was rather shallow but still manages to rest upon the top of my head when I wear the hat. I shaped my second Fed IV with a teardrop crease and, even though the overall crown height after shaping was slightly lower, the teardrop accommodates my head nicely without touching.

Thank you all very much for your advice, I will contact Stefan as he is the one I am dealing with re my concerns, I do like the idea of a teardrop crown though, so if all fails I'll go teardrop, when I get the Fedora in 12 months time I'll post some pictures for all you Hat fans to comment on.
