I'm trying to place a date to this photo of my grandfather (1920-1975; he is the man on the right). I am unsure of it's time. I think it is either from his time in a military hospital from the period 1945-1946 (he was hospitalized for over a year due to a gunshot wound in WWII). Yet I also wonder if it could be later--perhaps in the '50s?:

Other photos of him here, from different points, maybe could help you establish a timeframe? I was also thinking his and the other man's attire--and their wristwatches--could help some of our experts here place a date. Note: In documents from the WWII era, he is listed as weighing between 160 and 190lbs at 5'11'' and 1/2''. In the 1960s documents I have his weight is listed around 220-225lbs; In the 1974 document I have his height is listed as 212lbs.

Here are the other photos, chronologically. Look at things like his weight, face, hairstyles, overtime:

Sometime between '39 and '43:

Based on the shirt styles, and the buzzcut on the older gentleman, I would guess late '50s, if not '60s.

I grew up in Elizabeth, N.J. during the 50's and 60's, and I remember that, in 1962 or so, the big thing in shirts was "ponchos," so-called because the bottoms of the shirts were v-shaped. They came in madras cotton, often with bright colors. When I saw the picture, I immediately thought of those shirts when I saw the man on the left. I hope this helps you out.
