Dear TFL Members:

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me locate a thread that listed several quality Italian tanneries. I think this was a few years ago and may have had as the larger subject Bill Kelso Mfg. and/or Eastman. I am working as a technical advisor on two film productions and we need some custom-made leather jackets for the primary actors that employ really good leather. I vaguely recall a name of one tannery with a photo of the tannery, but an internet search has yielded nothing. I am not looking for Shinki from Japan.

I sincerely thank you for any help you can extend!

I think you are looking for Victoria Tannery:

Conceria Victoria

Established in 1946 in Santa Croce sull’Arno, Italy - known as one of the premier locations in the world for leather production – Conceria Victoria specializes in vegetable tanning based on centuries-old tanning traditions with an eye towards modern fashion sensibilities. The vegetable tanning process they specialize in highlights the natural aspects of leather and guarantees an extremely low ecological impact.

The tannery was revived by the third-generation in 1988 to preserve the old family tradition of tanning. The result is a handcrafted product that lets people rediscover the authenticity and preciousness of natural leather up-dated for the latest fashions.

All Conceria Victoria leathers use only the best hides available on the market from Italy and France. At the tannery, the raw skins go through an old-world vegetable tanning process that gives the leather a full body and very round hand.

That's it, HM!!! Thank you very much. I'll now do a search for this company. I cannot say too much as yet about the films due to NDA's being signed, but both are very exciting and will feature some great styles!!!

Hope you are enjoying LA!

I did, other than bringing home the flu. :-( Weather was great last week and meetings extremely productive. And my hotel was really superb; I must commend the staff at the Sofitel of Beverly Hills for making my stay first class and comfortable in every way. Amazingly, every time I tried to tip anyone, I was repeatedly told that it wasn't necessary, though I insisted. Also, had some great dining at COD Seafood on Melrose and Taylor's Steakhouse in downtown L. A.

I'll be back for more work as projects unfold. Hopefully, time will allow to meet some local TFL members, HM!

Nope. Just a name given to a tannage by a maker. I believe it may come from Victoria though. Doesn't Warhorse come from there too?

Thanks for the input, HM. Yes, I think ELC WarHorse does come from there, or maybe it did at one time. I don't ask questions any longer about anything that doesn't impact HPA business directly or indirectly; neither Gary nor I have the time, and times sure have changed in a HUGE way.

Hi, I'm from Napoli.
I could see, looking at the various forums of Fedora, that Italian leathers are very well known especially for the "Vicenza" horshide offered by Aeroleather.
The "Vicenza" horshide does not come, however, from Vicenza, but from tanneries located in Tuscany.
Historically, however, the most important veg tanned leather Italian tanneries are those of SOLOFRA, a small town in the province of Avellino, another city in Campania near Naples.
I do not allow myself to recommend any of these tanneries, as I am not an expert in leather, but you could do some research on the internet, using as keywords "SOLOFRA TANNERIES" or "CONCERIE DI SOLOFRA" (in Italian!).
Many sites are also in English, where you could check the services and products offered, and contact companies directly.
Take a look here https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solofra
Another important area is Tuscany, full of historic tanneries.
I hope I helped you.:)

I am Italian and I buy hides myself for my hobby. We do have some very good tanneries and I know some of the best in to processing horse hides . Funny enough I haven't seen a jacket made out of horsehide here, ever!
Hi Alz, revisiting the thread here. I wonder if you happen to know where the Aero "jerky horsehide" is made?
