A few towns over there is a small place which is on the brink of rural and suburban. A great deal of the town is still wooded areas interspersed with long stretches of barren roads, and many of the stores are run out of converted trailer homes. There's a Wal-Mart, and Arbys, and a 99 Cent Store, but there's also a town barber (again, run out of a trailer), and, this thrift store that my mother got me hooked on. Due to its location virutally all of the things there are donated from the town's residents... And they have some very unique things in their closets indeed. I wear a size 40R coat, and so I rarely ever find anything there-- it's all either in the low 50s or mid 30s-- but a few weeks ago mom surprised me with the coat below, which she'd accidentally gotten when she picked up a "bargain bag"-- a big paper sack filled with stuff and sold for $5 to clear out space for the holiday season. It was the only man's thing in the bag, and just so happened to fit me nicely.

I'm curious about its time, though. It's got two vents, what I think you call a "ticket pocket," and, most interestingly for me, was manufactured in Poland. Take a look at the snaps below, and let me know what you all can tell me about it. I'm pretty curious.

(Small tangent: In the event that I lose some more weight, is it possible to have velvet altered by a tailor?)

Well , it's single breasted two button double vented velvet sport coat. The only thing I find odd is that it has patch pockets. That looks odd on a velvet sport coat. That feature I associate with more casual looks. That small inside pocket may be meant for tickets but a true ticket pocket is on the outside above the right hip pocket and would be flapped like the hip pockets.

At a guess it is quite modern. It is more than likely, like a lot of jackets today, that pocket is a mobile phone pocket.

I may be completely wrong though,

No that is a proper ticket pocket inside the coat - they do not have to be on the outside.

A lot of jackets are now marketed as the small inside pocket being for the mobile phones.

However, it is a nice jacket. If you bought it new, I woud say it woud be over $200, looking onine, a lot of the Velvet jacket are between 100 and 150 pounds.

Kindest Regards

Ben

Thanks for all the info, everyone. I hadn't thought it was terribly old, but thought I might luck out and discover that it was from perhaps the late 60s/early 70s. It's still a nice jacket, and a steal.

And for geographic purposes, I'm about an hour outside of Houston.

Here's a pic of me from when I first got it; I wore it to the reading of my short-story that was published in my college's literature journal.

but if you asked for a ticket pocket it would be on the outside.
There is a differance between a "Ticket Pocket" and a pocket for tickets.
