Hello,

A guy came into my work today and gave me this Pyramid/GECo phone. Its a genuine British Bakelite phone. The base I think is 1938, but the handset is 1941.

I would just like some info about it, and if its possibly worth something to a collector? [huh]

The handset is definitely 9 years short of the 1950s... Its marked 41/1 which means it was made in either the first quarter of 1941 or January 1941... thats all I know though.

Furthermore, if you had read the label, it clearly reads 'To call exchange (which is he operator switchboard), lift telephone and listen.' Back in the 30s and 40s, alot of people still used switchboard operators to connect their calls. You would pick up the phone and say 'operator, get me Westminster 4420' or whatever borough you needed to call, followed by their 3-4 digit phone number. My phone was from Shere and its number used to be 341.

I think you could have saved yourself some typing time, but thanks anyway! :)

"Personally I think, they look nicer in "Ivory", your phone is valuable for parts only- Sorry, and they Only work in Britain and Australia"

Again, thank you for your opinion, but Ive decided a specialist can be far more helpful in my search for useful information. You have yet to tell me something I didnt already know.

Regards.

A person who restores bakelite phones (i.e. knows what they are talking about) has made me an offer of £50 for it, so... not too shabby for 'parts.' [huh]

I personally think they look best in green or red.
