Help I think I ruined my Aero Premiere Half Belt

I bought one of the 4 quart size things of Pennzoil oil at Home Depot last night and it leaked all over my truck . I didn't notice it was leaking because it was dark. My jacket has 5 dark oil stains which Ive tried to clean with no luck. The oil was unused but its still oil. Any suggestions ? I'm thinking of suing Pennzoil lol

Hmmm, wondering if dry cleaning by a leather specialist will get the motor oil stains out. Probably not. If that's the case, Obenaufs Oil will darken the whole jacket and will reduce the prominence of oil stains.
PS - show Pennzoil the leaking seal and the stained jacket, ask them nicely, tell em you are a lifetime customer, maybe they will do the right thing and make you whole.

Sorry about what happened. I'd also talk to Home Depot customer service too to see if they would offer anything to remediate the situation.
Motor oil is mostly by product of petroleum product, much like Vaseline. Synthetic oil in theory shouldn't darken the leather because there is nothing organic. But there are additives in motor oil, very little but still there. For the jacket I would wait a day or two to see if the spots gets back to normal. If not then I am afraid there isn't a way to lift oil stains out of leather. Like what Will Zack said, the only way to blend is to darken the whole jacket to blend the spots.

Fuller’s Earth - Betonite Clay does a great job of drawing oil stains out of clothing and felt hats. Motor oil is pretty heavy duty stains but I’d sure try it. It’s done wonders for me before.

Fuller’s Earth - Betonite Clay does a great job of drawing oil stains out of clothing and felt hats. Motor oil is pretty heavy duty stains but I’d sure try it. It’s done wonders for me before.

Thanks Will, I read online that unused motor oil is better than used oil and I could darken the whole jacket. The prob is, it looks great in its sunburned form right now. I'll post a pic of it with the stains when i get home tonight. BTW, would you be interested in a traded for an oil stained Aero Half Belt ?

hahahahaha seriously. Thanks a lot for the info, I tried saddle soap, baking soda, wait till u see the pic of it with stains, its pretty bad. Hey, you wouldn't be interested in a trade for an oil stained Aero Premiere Half Belt would you ? Oil Staining is really in right now, it looks a lot better than black teacore

I was so bummed, not to mention the pool of oil on the passenger side floor of my truck. The prob is I have a black interior and my dome light is useless so I didnt even know it was leaking

I had a brand new pair of RW boots. My friend took me up in his plane. It started aggressively leaking oil on my rw and ih denim. Safe landing but the jeans and boots were permanently stained.

What you now have, is something called "patina". Unique to you. It will set in, then take it's own course.

This might sound a little crazy, but have you tried to wash the oil out with Dawn dish washing liquid. Dawn does a good job removing oil. Try it in a small place first and rinse and let dry. The bad thing is leather will soak up oil like a sponge, but I have even used paint thinner to remove stains on leather then dawn dish washing soap, rinsed let dry then applied Neatsfoot oil, the leather will look darker for a little while but after it dries it returns to its natural color. That is a nice jacket, if I had it I would be willing to try any type of cleaner to get the oil out, the leather might dry out some, but after a few light applications of neatsfoot oil it would soften up.

Your brown Aero Half-belt is ruined beyond repair - But - your new black Aero Half-belt is really cool!

I doubt it the stains will go away even through several machine-washing sessions and any solution that might de-grease enough soaked-up motor oil for the stains to fade, will also affect the oils present in the leather to the extent I altogether am not willing to risk messing with.

Thus, as far as damage control goes, I don't believe you can do anything to remedy the situation. Even less-prominent, the stains wouldn't ever fully disappear and the jacket wouldn't look any less shabby. Stains are hideous.

On the bright side, think of what has happened as basically a beginning of a dyeing process which, in many ways, it is so you might as well simply finish the job and enjoy your new jet-black Half-belt.

I'd throw it in a large sink with lots of water and Dawn.
Agitate the heck out of it then just let it sit for a few hours.
Rinse it thoroughly then let it air dry or toss it in the dryer on low.
Worth a shot.
