I'm 63, & have reached an age whereby I think I should be wearing a hat.
Been sniffing around a few thrift stores when I found this.
Anyone know what I'ver picked up for €20?
ps: I have a full head of hair

Looks to be a vintage Milan straw hat. Milan is a wheat straw originally sourced in Italy and made into hats in Milan....hence the name. The straw is braided and then sewn circularly into a hat blank. They are great summer hats, a bit harder wearing than a Panama. But due to their heaviness they are hotter than a fine Panama straw. There are Dobbs Milan straws , or at least so named, but they are the newer paper straw that has been plasticized. They are just OK hats, a bit cheap and nasty. You should be able to tell. If your hat appears to be a true straw then it is a true Milan. If it has a shiny plastic like sheen to it then it is more modern and cheap.

Actually, I bought two hats - (I couldn't decide which one I preferred, so I bought both!) I think this one would make a good summer hat? Thoughts?
