I would be very grateful for any help with the sizing of this Thurston Bros. fit jacket. Carrie just sent me this 1930s HB in black Vicenza on Friday; it is a modified size 42 with added length to jacket front & sleeve. I have my own thoughts on the fit but would appreciate any unvarnished opinions. Thank you in advance to all those who take the time to reply.

Looks like a great fit! Maybe the sleeves could be a tad shorter, but that's just nitpicking.

From the untrained eye, it looks fantastic. Really love the three quarter zip up with the purple tie. Stylish. ;)

I'm with Handymike. It's okay, I mean, the jacket looks great and all but if we are to nitpick, the shoulders are kind of wide and there's some bunching in the chest area.

I agree with HM and M -- the shoulders are a tad wide and the body might be a tad too long (I'm on the fence about this, as I generally prefer longer jackets).

The jacket looks great from the front, but I am a bit irritated by how the leather gathers and bulks up above the half-belt. I believe it is too tight at the bottom, "stands" on your hips instead of falling a tad longer as intended and that is why theres a gathered leather bulk at the back. I would not size down, even though it is wider in the shoulders than most people here like it and instead add 1/2" to the side panels to make sure it is a bit wider at the bottom and doesn't gather like that at the back.

edit; you can probably get away with a size down, too, but if I had a jacket fitting as well in the torso as this one, I wouldn't want to take the risk of sizing down and then having a jacket that is uncomfortably tight when zipped up and that I can't layer under.

If its comfortable to move in, then it looks spot on to me.

I agree a size down might give a neater silhouette but personally I've found when I've had jackets that fit too neatly I tend not to find them comfortable as day to day jackets. I also tend to like longer rather than shorter sleeves, again, its all about personal preference I think.

IMHO the 30's HB looks good enough as is and don't believe I would size down if I were you. Maybe shorten the body and sleeves just a tad but less than an inch, keeping in mind the sleeves will shorten with creases over time. Sometimes the enemy of good is better. ;)

How far are the side belts strapped in? In my observation, if you have to have them adjusted all the way in for a neat, trim fit; the jacket's a size too big. There also appear to be some room in the back. . . Overall, I would try the 40.

Length and sleeves are okay, IMO.

Take a look at the first 6 pages. @Cooperson had 3 different lengths on his jacket. It is good to see the differences before deciding what you want on yours. :)

Nice search handy, just had quick scan through that thread, still amazes me how small differences in back length changed the overall look of the jacket. It took some effort to get that one right but It all came together in the end.

As to the OP's jacket, the sleeves reach the base knuckle of the thumb which for me is spot on. The shoulders maybe could come in a tad, if he doesn't intend to layer. As to the back length, this is where it gets really personal and 1" either way can make or break the period look. For me the 30's half belt always looks slightly off when it's too long, so I'd say this one could be a little shorter. Some may disagree :)

Thank you very much to those who've taken a few moments to reply. The overall consensus matches my own thoughts: the fit is an A- or B+. It feels about a 1/2 inch too long and a bit too much material on the top Half (shoulders & upper chest). I like the sleeve length as well as the circumference at the hemline. kind of wish there was a size 41 out there.

Does anyone know if Aero can do this level of customization? Essentially leave the size as is but narrow the shoulders and alter the drop to remove excess material in the upper chest. Or, does fit customization only extend to things like sleeve length, hem length, etc.?

I think they can do it. Some other members had it done this way, and I've had sleeve openings narrowed on all of my jackets from them so yeah, they're willing to go beyond just the basics. Worth asking in any case.

I'd check into the Premier Half Belt. The shoulders might come in and the waist might get a bit roomier. I think the Premier is bit straighter. Try to get some measurements.
