Big shout-out to Mikespens, a.k.a. 'the enabler', and his eagle eye for bringing this to my attention.

I'd been looking for something along these lines for a looooong time in my size.
Ever since I saw this...

It's the first Avanti in my collection, too.

Thanks, Mike!

Nothing too exciting. A modern "Hwy 1" from the DAV Thrift.

Got a couple more Tommy Bahama shirts as well. Another with large back embroidery.

There were a few other real Hawaiian shirts that were nicer, but the DAV has tripled the price lately and my wife was looking over my shoulder.

I may go back this evening ... alone. ;)

I like the pattern on that one, Bob H. Perfect camouflage for blending into a dark corner of Trader Vic's for a tall strong drink or few.

Oh......and I feel you about thrifting solo. Sometimes it's better that way.

You know the old saying.......its easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission. [emoji3]

I've been wearing Hawaiian shirts since high shool, when they were really difficult to find in this part of the country. Used to drive my mom crazy. She could not understand my fascination with a "flowered" shirt. I started buying them for my self whenever they would come available, which wasn't often until Tommy Bahama became more available, before the internet and eBay. Around here, they would come and go in the department stores as style would dictate. I haven't bought a new one in probably 12 years. I have so many in my closet, counting camp style shirts and Hawaiian styles that I haven't thought of adding any new ones until you guys started posting some of your great finds lately. Damn you Mike, Dale and Bob.

I don't have anything new but I'll post a few more of mine in the coming days. As you've seen from previous post I'm still partial to floral themes.

Nothing special but l bought this as a project shirt. Hilfiger in a 55/45, linen/cotton blend. Came with two patch pockets and button flaps. Don't know what the designer was thinking. I removed both flaps and one pocket. Really nice fabric.

That's a nice one cuz. Red is always a good color choice for "High-waiian flowerdy" shirts - as my dear old mom used to refer to them. I got my first one from k-mart back in the late 70s, and have been hooked ever since. Perhaps because, as explained in the chapter on 'Hawaiian Shirts', in between the entries on 'Hamburger Helper' and 'Heavy Metal', in "The Encyclopedia of Bad Taste"

(Yes, I'm quoting it again.....you really should grab a copy[emoji3])
".......a Hawaiian shirt worn anywhere other than near a beach or swimming pool is the classic way a vulgarian announces that he is unbounded by the livery constraints of polite society."
