Weather permitting, I'm off to Highcliffe Castle, to a classic car show. It's in a rather palatial setting. Previously, we have got dressed up, so much so, that we were photographed to be on the cover of their flyers. I had thought about going in vintage style but the weather doesn't look to co-operative, but it's warm enough for a nice shirt. Travel theme I think.

The weather changed so quickly yesterday, and so did my wife's choice of clothes. Off came my shirt and casual attire, to be replaced by a more formal Henley type blazer. I didn't take a photo of it, but here's how my missus looked.

She wasn't the only one to scrub up well, the MG caught the judges eye too.

Somewhere, at the back of the wardrobe, I have one of those dreadfully cheap sombrero hats, the sort that are sold on beach stalls, I can't remember where I bought it, bought I do have some hazy, probably alcohol fuelled, memory, of a so called Mexican themed night in Daytona FL. What would have really made an impact, had I had it at the time, is this Mexican beauties shirt. (You didn't honestly think that I was going to pose in that clown like sombrero, did you?)

The various artifacts on this shirt are all about travel. It depicts all the paraphernalia that goes with travel. Somehow, when looking at it, I get wistful and the wanderlust takes a hold. But I like my creature comforts and am not one to travel light. Thinking about all that travel entails, the arrangements, the booking, the disrupted flights, time in the departure lounge, time in immigration, waiting inline for the hired car, it's all just too much these days, and as Sinatra says, "It's nice to go tavelling, but it's so much nicer to come home. We have, in the past five years, spent a lot of time visiting places that visitors from overseas come to see. Would you believe, we live less than an hour's drive from The Stonehenge Circle, yet we have only seen it once, and that was from the car as we drove past.

If there's one shirt that never fails to get noticed, it's this one. "Can't miss that in your wardrobe," is the most frequent comment. but I've heard others say: "Love the shirt, the pattern and the colour, just wish I had the balls to wear something like that." I take that as a compliment then. It's curious though, I often see men wearing what I think are called, cargo shorts. It's those baggy, very long variety, that come well below the knee. Now that's something that I would feel ridiculous in. More often than not you will see those shorts worn with a printed T-shirt and well worn trainers. If I were to wear that I would feel totally conspicuous. I guess it's a case of, each to their own.

Thank you, what do you think of black for a shirt? It might seem either, unimaginitive, or the man of mystery. But for my missus, it's a challenge to come up with a way of being different. Take a black shirt, adorn it with the front panel in a black & white art deco pattern, and you have a unique style. We are off to a late 40's early 50's era gig tonight. I shall wear this shirt teamed up with a black chequered dog-tooth blazer, high waisted, black oxford trousers and black & white patent leather spectators.

That totally works. Your wife knows what she is doing!
Do you have a full pic of you from last night?

It's tonight, (for me,) our time zone difference is: Plus five hours Eastern Seeboard. Meaning it's five pm in the UK when it's noon in New York. Then go back one hour across the time zones so that it's nine am along the Pacific shore when it's five pm here. Here's a couple of previous photos, first of tonight's outfit minus the jacket, then one of the jacket in a different outfit, then a shot of the shoes.
When I described a black shirt, I wondered if anyone thought of a white dog collar?

That was some gig last night, I counted about five shirts that Tina had made. It was a very warm evening too, so a loose fitting shirt is perfect for staying cool.
A busy weekend coming up, Monday is a public holiday in the UK and there's much going on. I'm just off to give a friend a hand with his car's electrics. Then I'm back to give the MG a last minute dusting, it's already had a thorough valet, before attending an all day event. We are going to a barbeque tonight, then tomorrow we have to be up early to meet friends for some sort of charity breakfast. (I've no idea what that's about, my missus, the social secretary, roped me in.)

Kind words indeed, thank you. One place that I would like to go but have never been to, is the Hawaiian Islands. My Godson honeymooned there, brought me back the most beautiful retro, black and white print shirt. As is always the case with such treasures, I can't find it. We moved out of London a while back, and I'm wondering if it went awol during the move.
One day, when I least expect it, the shirt will come to light.

We are going to a barbeque tonight, then tomorrow we have to be up early to meet friends for some sort of charity breakfast. (I've no idea what that's about, my missus, the social secretary, roped me in.)
The charity event, it turns out to be a walk. There's a very popular resort where the Brits like to enjoy a weekend by the sea, some come for longer periods, the resort is called Bournemouth. It's about 30/40 minute drive from where we live. There are two piers at Bournemouth, one in the town centre, the other, a couple of miles or so eastwards at the suburb of Boscombe. They are connected by a promenade along the sea front. We are meeting a large group of our friends for breakfast at a sea front cafe in Boscombe, after which, we shall take a leisurely stroll along the promenade to Bournemouth. Sounds simple? Well, Monday is a public holiday in the UK, so if the sun is shining today, the beach will be packed. We are expecting to cause a stir, because we are all going to be scrubbed up 1940's style. Unbeknown to me, my wife has already raised quite a bit of sponsorship money, as have all the others. We are hoping to raise more by carrying some collecting buckets and charging the tourists a pound to photograph us. I'll take the camera and bring you some pics.
This is what I was planning to wear:

But then I was informed that it was formal, as in; "You're not going like that, are you?" Married men of a certain age know full well that's not a question, it's not even a rhetorical remark. It's an instruction.
For those of you who have yet to go through "the training," it means, go and get your suit and tie on, no ifs, buts or arguments.

Today, however, a phenomenon seems to be gaining popularity. It's called: "Flash Mob." A group of musicians gather, play a popular song, and just as quickly, disperse.
How prophetic were those words? What our crowd did today was the charity walk, but at various points along the route, they stopped, out came the I-pad and speakers, a dance number; from the era of course, would be selected, and the group danced a pre-choreographed routine. It quickly attracted quite a crowd. Have to say, our mode of dress drew quite a reaction too.

Here's another photo, posed this time, from yesterday's flash mob.

I have to admit, it did get rather hot in that suit yesterday. In the end I changed out of the linen suit so as not to crumple it, I shall be wearing it to a wedding soon. It was probably the hottest day of year so far yesterday, and there I was, all suited and booted in a pure wool, three piece suit and felt hat.

Some of you enjoy classic cars, late yesterday afternoon, I was at a show, directly opposite me were two sports cars that sold in their thousands across the pond. On the left is an Austin Healy 3000, and on the right an MGA. They are both flanking an American beauty that traversed the pond in the opposite direction, what a lovely Corvette.

The hot weather seems to have subsided a little, but I shall still be taking the MG out later, this shirt was made for classic enthusiasts, well I like to think so. To define it as an Aloha shirt would be tenuous indeed.

Looks like a really fun day, GHT. I'm a bit envious you live somewhere you can find enough fellow enthusiasts to make an event like that.

Dale, if there's one drawback to the Lounge, it's not being able to meet, buying them a beer and enjoy getting to know it's members. The advantage is the opposite, without the internet, I would be bereft of the 'company' of you, and so many others too.
What a dilemma.

Another of my lovely gifts. This shirt was a gift from the lady who partners my wife at vintage events. They style the ladies hair. It's a great shirt, heavy cotton and so well made.

I really love this material, an abstract impression of flowers, it's a great colour that goes just as well with cream trousers, or a straw hat. Tina offered to make me another after my weight loss, but I'm keeping the original, even though the alteration means that the panels no longer line up.

A good friend of mine wanted a floral shirt made, which Tina duly did, but the material he chose was, well, somewhat over the top. I liked the pattern but not the shirt. "I agree," said my lady, "but I know just how to get the balance right." What she did was to contrast it with plain material, and it worked a treat. Sorry the sunshine caught the camera lense, but the shirt is in full view.
