I'm going to have to disagree here. If it's a good pattern then the jacket will look good even though it's not perfectly sized.

Here's the same jacket worn by guys size 38 - 40 - 42

You are absolutely right in part imo. If a pattern is great, it can look fantastic on a variety of people and body types. My vanson and rainbow country a2 have both been owned by me and guys that are over 6' and slim and both looked good on each person. My Freewheelers Mulhollands are the same. I owned a few and they looked good on several different people.

However, that's still not easy for most people to achieve. You are an exception, not a rule. You have more experience with leather jackets already than most people ever will. You know what's up and you are showing a jacket made by a fantastic maker who gives fit jackets. You are also in good shape which makes it easier. Trust me, I've been on both sides of this now. It matters.

Most people don't have all of those advantages you have. Also, not all leather jackets have good patterns. Even good patterns don't actually work on all body types. Also, tbh I don't think that jacket looks all that good on one of those people.

I'm sure there are items that are harder to size. To get a suit right is almost certainly more difficult. For some people, boots and shoes are difficult. Personally, I think leather jackets are much more difficult to get right than most shirts, jeans, and jackets partly because leather is less forgiving and literally has less give than other fabrics.

Can it be relatively easy in some cases? Yes it can as you have pointed out. And yes it's gotten easier for me as I can buy stuff online fairly easily. That said, I can size shirts, t shirts, trousers, and more a hell of a lot easier than leather jackets still, despite being a leather jacket enthusiast for 10 years.

It's not universal, however. This might make a good thread actually. I'd be curious to hear what others think as well. Maybe I'm nuts :p

I’d go so far as to say that even many of the guys who are “influencers” with blogs and Instagrams about leather jackets and workwear have little concept of fit (with some notable exceptions,).
I'm actually curious who you think does and does not know about sizing leather jackets within this group you've laid out.

lol, half wits writing total junk propaganda.
These vermin watch a few movies and think it sets some totally imagined rules.

That right there is the definition of low hanging fruit :D I already have this list in my head.

Luckily I'm good enough at blocking their names out from my memory, but it's like whenever I go on Instagram (which isn't all that often) I get suggested all these accounts by these guys who are practically clones of each other. They all wear the 'official' workwear/amekaji/etc brands, with certain obligatory items like those giant bag-sized wallets tucked into the rear pocket of jeans. A few thousand dollars' worth of clothes on in the photos, but nothing (except, I assume/hope, the shoes) fits.

They tend to have many thousands of followers and a flood of comments on every post, too. It seems like an industry. It's like you took the guy Marc linked and switched out the colors of each item.

I did once meet a guy in person who turned out being a real life example… Was out in the real world and either recognized someone's boots or the arcs on a pair of jeans, so I asked, 'Are they "whatever-the-brand-was"'?' to pass conversation in line at the store. The guy told me to check out his Instagram, as we were parting ways, which I did… and it was exactly like the guys above.

Likewise, an acquaintance I was giving fit advice to on a number of items over the course of a year turned out to be an aspiring workwear influencer, lol.

I don't know whether I'm more irritated by said influencers or by their followers in the comments. "Dope kit, my dude. (firefirefireclapclapshades)", "Awesome shot, brother. (firefireclapclap)", "Nice pic!" (fireclapfireclap). Never a suggestion, an idea, an explanation why or what... Nothing. I'm half convinced they got bots making these somehow.
I have more respect for an occasional reply asking for a specific pose or clothing item because at least you what that guy gonna do with it (droplets).

Humans are omnivores by evolution. Right in the dead-on center.
If, however, you want to base your assumption on a time-span of our eating habits, one could then easily argue that humans are 100 per cent underlined herbivores because plant-based diet is what we ate for most our stay on this planet.

As for the "left" and "right" wing whatever, I'm not even sure what any of that means but I know that it pertains to politics and politics are mega-banned on this forum in any way, shape or form so let's not go there, eh.

The thing that’s surprised me the most this season is the number of people asking me if I have a motorcycle. I’ve never connected leathers and motorcycles that closely. Most of the people I see in leather jackets are more punk rock or vintage workwear inspired and most people on motorcycles are wearing modern protective gear or shorts and flip flops.

Same! There are quiet a few of these ‘influencers’ that seem like really nice guys and I am just left feeling sad for them as they spiral into a circle of buying more and more poorly fitting, ridiculously mismatched clothes while an army of followers cheer them on.

I think this forum is a model of giving kind and constructive criticism. If someone has just taken delivery of a thousand dollar jacket that they love, they might not be ready to hear someone say the fit is awful. But a gently ‘maybe you could try some straight fit jeans that could cover those boots to see if you like that look’ is really doing everyone a favor.

Also, I think that an old guy in an old, well-worn jacket in the pinnacle of cool. You look at them and wonder what adventures they have been on and where that jacket has been in their lifetime.

An old guy in a brand new jacket isn’t necessarily bad or wrong, but maybe a little more jarring and likely to lead to all those midlife crisis cliches.

Ah, the fashion press. Bless. This one comes around every season. It's a hardy perennial, other being "Men should not wear hats in [year] / modern times", "The top ten formal shoes you should own [half of which are trainers]", "Men must never wear more than two rings, and they can never wear rings they just like, their ring must have A Deep Meaning" and so on. No different than the sort of 'opinions paraded as rules' you see at some point anywhere clothes are discussed. Ignore it and move on.

Thats a huge difference- Constructive criticism. I like some aspects of Instagram. The best thing about it is using dm messages and forming groups with the people who actually like the stuff and have knowledge (yes, they do exist.)

The comments are usually useless and only positive which is quite annoying.

Forums like this have the advantage of truly being based in discussion so you can give and receive constructive criticism which is far more helpful.

Rick Rubin is a great example. I've always been fascinated by how he straddles everything, from being part of the original New York punk scene to the development of rap etc. The beaten up Perfecto just works.
