have you ever tried a white port?

A fellow I heard of who lived at 722 Toulouse Street in the Vieux carre used to wash his "Sandman Specials" down with white port.

I never considered to to be a particularly elegant tipple, but it does get the job done.

I've tried a couple white ports. While a bit interesting, I haven't really found them to have any real character.

When I was touring the Port Houses in Porto a couple years ago, they were saying that the white ports were being marketed as a 'sweet, neutral spirit' around which to create cocktails.

I can see them being quite good at that, or perhaps mixed with sparkling water on a hot day, but as a drink on its own, I'll pass.

I got some at the local convenience store, that had a reasonably chichi wine section (for a convenience store)...something Spanish I think. Pretty much tasted like sweet sherry to me.
