Have you ever had a stranger photograph you...when you were dressed vintage?

When I am out and about in a pair vintage slacks and a gab shirt? No.

When I pull out the rare and wild stuff for the big to-do events? All the time.

I used to photograph people who looked interesting, but never without permission, that's just rude. I admit I always do get a kick over people asking to take a photo of or with me.

Yes! This has happened to me more than a few times. I was at a theatre where they were showing one of my favorites, My Man Godfrey. And I was dressed to the 9s!! Hat, stockings, wonderful R&K dress etc... There was a huge line and of course walking to the back of the line people are staring and snickering. Then after the showing everyone was waiting outside in the lobby and I had at least seven people come up to me asking to take a picture with me! I was given compliments, women saying they wish they had the guts to go all out in vintage. Two people thought I was hired there to dress up!! haha! Funny thing was I did work there a couple years before!! -Chloe

Just last week-end in downtown L.A. I spied the photographer from the corner of my eye, and gave him a steady pose to shoot...

Yes, a few times and just lately at the casino. In all fairness, I think it is easier to be having someone take a picture of me while dressed, for sure! lol!

I was at a winery on eastern LI during the summer. I was wearing my usual Fed IV, henley shirt, cargo shorts, photo vest and MkVII shoulder bag. My wife was standing a few steps away from me talking to friends. Two girls come up on either side of me and face the same way I am facing. I look where they are looking, and there are more girls a few steps away with a camera. One takes our picture. I put my arms up and mouth the word, 'Why?' but I didn't get an answer, just smiles. It was all good.

I was in NYC in Washington Square wearing a brown suede pair of shoes similar to the these, and a young girl came up to me and asked permission to photograph my feet . She was an art student and I said yes.

Why, thank you! She didn't even see it happen. It's a busy place and she was talking to friends. I told her about it and it didn't bother her.

When I worked at Fossil a few years ago, my manager used to make me stand outside to "attract people into the store." I was lucky, though - The people who whipped out their cellphones asked my permission to take a picture. I can only imagine what they said when they showed it around later on.

We used to attend a lot of WWII events and people would constantly ask us for photos, to pose with them, etc. I was also victim of the "sneak attack" photos a few times. My picture has been in various Texas & Oklahoma newspapers more times than I can count. lol

On the street, no, never. Then again, I live in a city where people regularly wear spurs & cowboy hats on the street, so a vintage 40s dress & heels doesn't attract much attention.

I have had the odd japanese tourist photograph me at work and an american lady this summer, who wanted to take my photo home and show her family. (Sweetest lady going....). Mind you my shop has something to do with it, as it is an interesting location.

I did get my photo taken with Captain Mannering (best lookalike ever), for the local paper, for Rye's 1940's day. I was quite chuffed but then not many people aside from the re-enactors and myself had dressed up.

seems a little creepy to have strangers stop you and ask to take your photo. Unless of course the whole point of someone wearing vintage is to be noticed...

I don't think so personally. I wear vintage for a myriad of reasons, least of all to get noticed. I am usually suprised mostly when people have asked for my photo, as i don't think i warrant photographing really. There are also a myriad of reasons why people want to photograph us vintage types too.

I get it all the time as well when I suit up as well. I suppose you don't see many people go to dinner in a tuxedo though. I don't get the prom thing anymore since the wife and I have children now.

I wish more people did dress for dinner properly. I do. It's amazing how many people in really rather nice restaurants seem to have no concept of the idea of dressing for dinner and turn up in sportswear or jeans or what have you.

That REALLY kills me---well, that and church clothing today.
Respect not only involves actions but dress in some cases.
