You know when I was growing up in the late 70's watching rerun tv shows like Lost in Space, the Jetsons and other futuristic shows I kinda expected the world to be a little different when I became an adult.

I expected to have a special jet backpack that could fly me to work, perhaps a flying car, a wristwatch phone and regular trips to the moon....alas it didn't happen. Now maybe I was a kid who watched too many reruns or perhaps the future is just not what it's cracked up to be...whadya think?

What did you expect the future to be like when you were a kid?

Science fiction films and TV shows with dates in the title and storyline. What a letdown!

-- "Space: 1999". I'm still waiting for the moon to get blown out of its orbit!

-- "2001: A Space Odyssey". Yeah, right!

-- "2010". See above. In fact, the real 2010 won't even be like "2001".

-- "Blade Runner". We're getting awfully close to 2016, and I'm not seeing any weirdos speaking Japanese/English/Spanish pidgin in downtown L.A., ---let alone Daryl Hannah doing backflips.

I prefer the distopic flicks, though they aren't seen nowadays. I think the vision of the future is lost in the creative dark ages in which we are currently living.

When they redid Tomorrowland it should have been the same land just with Grafitti and mutants in torn up costumes. No... they had to take a past vision of the future which looked hunky dory and brass and copper up the place.

It IS sort of a disappointment.

But maybe we expected a bit too much? And too soon.
We do have robots like Honda's Asimo. We have ever improving computer technology. We have all that technology really, but we haven't the means to make it all practical.
Maybe in time? [huh]
