Here in the Swan River Colony, the sun is so fierce, and the risk of skin cancer is so high you are derided for not wearing a hat, many professionals wear panamas along St Georges Terrace, S.R.C's main thoroughfare

I have 2 sons, aged 25 and 16. The twenty five year old has no personal style, but still manages to wear a hat of some sort almost every day. The 16 year old wears hats to school (and to class) and is known for being very cool with his assortment of hats. He has every color, several brim styles, and looks good in them all. At some point he's going to realize that many of the little girls his age admire his hats and are too shy to tell him. I see their admiring glances and watch them gossip.
