It is SWEET!!!!!!!

I was going to have a tricorn made and Mike got out a 100% beaver body that had a blemish. (I am learning that things hatters call blemishes are unnoticeacle to me.) Well when he started sanding on it the blemish was gone and it turned silky smooth! Being that it was such a good hat body and full beaver, we decided to turn it into a civil war cav hat! I now have a 100% beaver, black cavalry hat, CSA of course. It has the cord and will get the sabers when I get home. It has a four inch brim but fits like a fedora and is lighter than any western I have tried on.

He also used that conformateur thing on me. I had no idea how they worked but once done the shape of the hat is the exact shape of my head. It is the best fitting hat I have, drops right on. It has the extra touch like Art does when he sends you the conformer, but done by the hatter himself so no chance of me screwing it up. And on one of those old timey contraptions that was really cool to see how it worked.

The only thing I did not do was hook the 110 volt cord up to it when he had it on, I told him it would only hurt for second and he would be ok, but when he showed me that big fist I said no problem!!!!!!!!!


We all had a great time this Sunday in the shop, I was so busy , I never really got to spend time with everyone like I wanted to.

What a fun weekend! Man it was a long road home, but we had the best time since Monteagle. It was just great to see everyone again, and, Mike, thank you so much for having us in your way all day Sunday (and for Kim and me Saturday afternoon too). Thanks also for your generosity. What a guy!

Dee tried on some Sunday bonnets

Mike works with a templet of Kim's head made from his conformitor. He then used the templet to steam and shape shape Kim's Camddraft. It fit her a ton better when he was done with it.

IC got his hands on gtdean's hat and was trying to steam a crease into it for him. We sure are sorry, Tom, but your hat shrunk quite a bit I'm afraid. We tried to get him away from the steamer, but he just wouldn't give up. He kept saying he wanted to give your hat the nicest crease you've ever seen.

I picked up a nice souvenir this weekend. How can you visit a hat shop without picking out a hat? I say, can't be done. I have to say Kim spotted that natural Moore Lite before I did, but it was too big for her. Whew!
I posted it in the new hat thread, but it is so light it's almost like not wearing a hat at all. I thought my Strats were light, but this is even lighter and shapes just to the touch. Thank you, Mike, I love it!
