Hats and Drinks - A Match Made in Heaven

It seems the spirits industry has gotten the ATF to pave the way for the industry to do what has already happened to most other grocery items & consumable goods; sell you less product for the same money. Late in December 2020 the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau announced it would now accept new "standards of fill" paving the way for the 700ml bottle to become the US standard, replacing the 750ml bottle size. This is a decrease of 6.7%. You may recall this has happened before & that's how we got from a Fifth to 750ml.

All indications from the Spirits industry are that as the bottle size goes down prices will not likely follow. Same thing is expected to happen if/when the tariffs come off, prices aren't expected to come back down to pre tariff levels.

Stock up now. Cheers!

This is like the half gallon boxes of Breyer’s ice cream going to a quart and a half all over again :D

Not sure about the match with kangaroo leather, but vodka tonic made with vodka sous vide infused with mixed berries is highly recommended.

It has warmed up to -14'f. Feels like temp is -32'f (this is with wind chill). Brrr! I have taken a day off and feeling "cabin fever" headed out to walk the property with my dog. I poured a Surley IPA and headed out. On the walk the beer kept getting a slushy top. Sure sign it is very cold.

The past couple weeks when I would have a chance, usually north of 11:00pm I did sip a whiskey. My bottles of Yamazaki 12, Laphroig Quarter Cask and Green Spot got the recent calls. A small pour into a heavy crystal glass just seemed to do the trick. The combo of very cold weather and long work hours had me really enjoying the taste. No quantity, but the glass sipped over almost a hour was a real luxurious enjoyment. At first the alcohol taste was prevalent, but soon after the tastes of the whiskeys came though. I took time and it was enjoyable to have them develop in my mouth. I am not an experienced whiskey drinker, so this was an opportunity to really lget to know a couple bottles.

It may be very cold, but I am recharging my personal energies for another long couple weeks. Feeling good! I am even considering starting up the grill. I can do -14f' on the grill!

Cheers, Eric -
