Just a chuckle. It would worthy to satisfy curiosity to tune in. A virtual buzz. Virtual satisfaction. Virtual taste. The advantage I could virtually taste all the whiskeys I have not been able to aquire or are beyond my wallet.

Sipping a single origin Caribou Brazilian coffee this morning.

Having some Fogcutters tonight. More of a traditional IPA, with hops that I am familiar with. Chinook for bittering, Cascade on the finish. Also contains Crystal, Centennial, and Citra. Chinook is dominate. Light mouthfeel but otherwise just about perfect. 8.7 abv. and 80 IBUs. View attachment 304566

"Just about perfect" - Enough of a reccomondation for me to add it to my Beer Search list.

We know that the hops in the Fogcutters are:
Chinook - bittering, pine aroma
Cascade - flower and citrus finish. Taste and aroma.
Crystal - woodsy green and sharpness (cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper)
Cenntenial - American trad hops (pungent notes with lemon)
Citra - An citrus aroma hop.

The brewer craftsmanship is the combos and quantities. Post COVID I intend to take some visits of craft brewers to ask questions on how they choose hops.

Typically Islay's tend to taste peaty, smoky, & salty. They have an oily & medium thick mouth feel, leaving oily curtains in the glass. My favorites would be from Lagavulin or Ardbeg. The Laphroaig's have strong tastes of medicinal alcohol & iodine, not favorites to me. Laphroaig Quarter Cask isn't bad. Non typical Islay's would be the Bunnahabhain's & Bruichladdich's but I have no experience with them. If need be it's ok to add just a drop or two of good water, no more than a half teaspoon at most. You ruin it if you drink it OTR.

Islay's pair well with beef or roasted chicken as an after dinner drink. Not so well with pork or fish.

These aren't grocery store or gas station Whiskys but you can get an idea of pricing on line. Lagavulin 8, Ardbeg Wee Beastie or Ardbeg 10, & Laphroaig Quarter Cask will be at the lower price point. PM me if you want to know more.
You may also want to try Talisker from Skye. It was my first intro to Single Malt when we visited Scotland in 1993, and has always been a favorite.

I've had a couple bottles of Talisker 10. I used to drink Highland Park; had 1 bottle of Arran since the Distillery reopened. Always thought about Jura but never bought any. That's all the Coastal Island distilleries I'm familiar with.

Good description of the hop profiles. When I was homebrewing, about 20 years ago, I used Chinook for bittering my IPA. It has high alpha acid units (AAUs). The pungent bitterness is not for everyone, but right up my alley! The hop variety available today is amazing, and has spawned so many versions of IPA.
