Thank you all for the advice, on the hats, the SunBody hats look like a good option, and I'm not too concerned if I only get a couple of years out of my first hat.

So does anyone know of any local hat stores in the Minneapolis area where I could just go try some on. Even if it's only high end hats that would be fine, I just want to figure out my size and try on some different styles before I start ordering anything online.

No but you can search the web just like I did. These might or might not be of interest. http://minneapolis-mn.yellowusa.com/Hats_Retail.html

Here I am grilling in my sunbody it is the 5.75 crown 3.5 inch brim. I shaped it over the last few years tweaking it little by little.

A year later, this year, 2011: it has somewhat of a hollywood brim to it which you can not see in the photo, the tear drop is also better defined- took practice!

2010, I removed the center dent and began working on a tear drop crease.

So I've recently developed an interest in hats and am looking to purchase a hat or two, probably a straw hat initially since summer is here followed by some sort of felt fedora for fall/winter(assuming this recent obsession continues anyway).

Unfortunately googling hatters doesn't turn up much for my area, and searching for hat shops turned up a whole bunch of sports stores :( Google did however lead me to this site, so I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Can anyone recommend any hat shops in the Minneapolis/St. Paul MN area? I'm not prepared to spend hundreds of $$$'s on a hat just yet(would like to keep this under $100), so most of the custom hats are probably out of the question, I'm also aware(thanks to this site) of some reasonably priced quality hats available online, but since the only hats I currently own are my winter stocking hats, I would prefer to find a local shop where I could try on a few different styles and decide what I like on my head.

Any suggestions for Minneapolis areas hat stores?

They have a pretty good selection, I've bought three hats there.

Thanks for checking, I do appreciate it, unfortunately most of that list is baseball caps, though I might have to check out Capital City Hatters and possibly Hats Meow(no websites so I will have to call to see what they have) so neither of those showed up on google(I always forget about the yellow pages)

Hey ¡¡¡¡ Fedora loungers come to México to León, Gto., Guadalajara, Jal, or Mexico City and you will find great straw hats around 30 - 40 usd. Visit Mexico ¡¡¡¡ and pick great hats, visit prehispanic ruins, teotihucans, mayas, enjoy fabulous meals

Thanks for all the advice!

I did some searching and wound up ordering a discounted Caballero from Panama Bob for well under my $100 mark: http://panamas.biz/cuenca/Caballero.jpg

Now it just looks like I'll have to sit and wait a few weeks for it to get here :(

Does anyone have any experience with the Carmel Biltmore Panama Diamond Crown fedora? I was looking at this one also for right around my $100 mark, still debating it but will wait for the 1st hat before getting a 2nd: http://www.villagehatshop.com/biltmore-excello-panama-diamond-crown-fedora-caramel.html

Correction on the waiting a few weeks. Got a call from PB today, and they are shipping it out tomorrow. Which in hindsight makes sense, the discounted ones were probably already made and sitting around.
