Count Dracula is who I was referring to. ;) That cape just does nothing for me. It is theatrical at best.
Yes, gray is a less formal color. They also had white tuxedos in the teens for day time affairs in spring and summer . The fellow in the background of this catalog print is wearing what I am trying to explain:

These are referred to in the catalog as, front to background, Formal, Tuxedo, Cutaway Frock and Summer. I'll take one of each please. ;)
