Good day, fellow loungers! I recently bought a gorgeous custom hat from Art Fawcett that is a blend between the Humphrey Bogart & Indiana Jones fedora, in size 58. Two weeks ago, I went full bald (and I intend on retaining my baldness), so now my head measures a 57. I'm looking for a way of reducing the size of my hat, and have already found some solutions to this. What would you say is the best way of doing this?

Thanks in advance! I hope you gentlemen wear your fedoras well :)

Call Art and explain your problem. He would probably reduce the size for a modest fee. When buying a vintage, that turn out a little too big, I fold up a little tissue paper and place small pads (appr. 1-1/2" x 2") behind the sweat. Two just in front of the temples - and if that's not enough, two more in the neck area. Usually, the hat will shrink over time - and I remove the pads in the process.

Walmart craft dept or Hobby Lobby or Michael's has squares of felt for about 50 cents. Get one & cut it into strips to tuck behind the sweat.
I always get the white so there is no chance of dye bleeding if I sweat or caught in the rain.

If Art made it for me, I'd have him resize me & adjust it.
His hats are too nice for sizing strips to me...

In the Netherlands and Denmark we very rarely have extreme hot weather, and I haven't had any bad experiences with tissue paper in rainy weather. I have size-reduced quite a number of hats this way without problems. I don't think I have used it for more than a year or two in any hat, though.
