Has anyone watched the most recent episode of Mythbusters? Adam was sporting a pretty nice wide ribbon fedora instead of his standard outback for much of the episode. It looked to be some form of raiders hat.

Yes I did and yes he had. It looked like Penman Raider hat. I think though it didn't look as good on him as the Clint Eastwood hat - the crown was a bit too tall.

If it was the Motorcycle Flip episode then he was wearing an Adventurebilt Deluxe made by Marc. It was bought by Adam from a member over at COW. If it is a more recent episode then it is most likely the replacement Adventurebilt Deluxe Marc made for Adam recently in trade for the old hat. Do you happen to know what the Episode was?

This was the old hat from the Motorcycle Flip episode. One of Marc's early attempts at a Raider's hat.

If it was the President's Challenge episode, I think it may be the new Adventurebilt built for Adam.

Cheers!

That is the episode I was talking about, and it definitely looked new. I thought it was pretty sharp, and it wasn't costume this time, like it was for the motorcycle flit, it was just one of his hats, which I thought was cool.

Hats seem to be getting more popular with the younger crowd. I go to a school where most of the students are in the 20s-30s range and I've seen a lot of hats come out now that the weather is cooler (or COLD like it is now). I've seen a lot of flat caps and quite a few fedoras and outback styles. Most of those have been cheapo wool felts, but at least they're trying.

I know a guy in my dorm who owns a couple of nice fedoras, but I never see him wear them.

I'm wearing a vintage Adams fedora today, and I'm 25. I've been wearing one since long before they came back in style, though.

Then that one was the new Adventurebilt Deluxe that Marc made. I don't think it was made all that long ago so it should look fairly new. Heck, it may have been brand new to Adam when they shot that episode. Pretty cool huh?

Cheers!

New & unexpected sighting: While doing some Christmas shopping at Barnes & Noble, one of the young men at the checkout was wearing a fedora. Even while waiting in line, I could see that it was a fur felt, with a medium-wide ribbon. I suspected that it was a Federation, and I made sure that I wound up in his line so that I could inquire. I was right. It was a Federation that he'd had for a couple of years, and he said he wears it every chance he gets.

I was just downtown Chicago yesterday evening and when I turned a corner of a building I was confronted with four of us in nice fedoras. One coming up some steps from a lower level of a building, two coming at me on the sidewalk and me. It was sort of cool to see so many of us all at once like that. Additionally I saw two chicks with fedoras and two other guys wearing them that night.

I always get the nicest comments on my fedoras when I'm traveling in Chicago.

On the last day of my classes, I saw a guy riding a bicycle across the street to another sidewalk. He was wearing a brown felt hat that looked like a western style. Close to a certain Clint Eastwood hat, actually. Looked about three inches or three and a half inches wide, I'd say. I thought that was pretty cool.

I was at the apple butter festival in kimmswick mo and saw a guy there wearing a nice looking fedora thin ribbon. Looked like a campdraft. He stopped and watched us perform or maybe just looking at our hats? The group I was singing with had three hats in it. A black dobbs American derby A new dobbs brown wool and I was wearing a 40s Stetson grey wide ribbon.

"Chicks"? Are you sure they weren't dames or broads? :)

Were any of you esteemed gentlemen waiting at the Shady Grove Metro Station (outside of DC) on Friday? If not than there is a young fellow who I should have introduced to the forum. He was dressed in a very sharp vintage style, and had a nice newsboy cap on.

Hold it on the hats for a moment. What I want to know is, what the heck is an Apple Butter Festival (besides the obvious), and where in the world did the name Kimmswick come from?[huh]

Moving back to hats, my last time at Clifton's Cafeteria on Broadway (an L.A. institution since the '30s), I saw one of the regulars sporting his usual beat-up, beige, straw fedora. He looks to be about 80, and I've complimented him on wearing a hat before. I also spied a man wearing a two piece, black suit topped by white straw; he smiled when I complimented him on his ensemble (I think he had a vintage tie on, too), and gave me a thumbs up while he attempted to continue eating...:eusa_doh:

Don't know where the name kimmswick missouri came from. I live about 80 miles south of there. We were there playing bluegrass with our group Cabin Fever.

Locally, I see mostly the wise-aged wearing fedoras, but they must be catching. A year back I bought a crush-able wool fedora for my dad at Penny's for $20 full price and this year the exact same hat is $50 (and I see similar everywhere I go.) They have to be returning to style for that price increase, right?

Luckily we caved in this year and just bought him a Stetson Saxon. He has a larger head size, so we have to wait until January to go pick it up at the hatters.
